Nanook 2 Posted June 30, 2008 Does anyone know whether or not a passport is needed in order to drive to Canada. If not what are the requirements as of the summer of 2008, thanks Nanook.
Pix 4 Posted June 30, 2008 Unfortunetly yes you need a passport now. You might want to call boarder patrol to get specifics but as far as I know it is needed now, and 'just' an ID and birth cert' wont cut it anymore.
Nanook 2 Posted June 30, 2008 I went on line and they were discussing flying into Canada but they didn't mention "driving". I keep hearing various stuff and was hoping I could just cut it with my BC and my DL! Thanks Nanook:smile:
Pix 4 Posted June 30, 2008 I drive the AlCan quite a bit (alaska is my home, but stinking AF has me in Washington) I hate the changes cause that makes it so difficult to get to and from.
Ang1982 4 Posted June 30, 2008 (edited) Well to be honest, I'm not 100% sure but I know for driving Canada to US you are "supposed to have" a passport but i don't think the law has taken effect 100% yet. Are you not able to apply for a fasttracked passport to be safe? Okay this is straight from CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) website.... Non-Canadians When you enter Canada, a CBSA officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, if one is necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification. If you are a permanent resident of the U.S, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card (i.e., green card) with you. http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/security-securite/admiss-eng.html Edited June 30, 2008 by Ang1982
Nanook 2 Posted June 30, 2008 I can I just didn't want to spend the extra money! My husband needs one too. I'm one of those do all for the kids and put yourself on the bottom of the list! It's just that it makes it really confusing when I go to sites. It's only a 3 hour drive so it's not that big of a deal so I was kind of hoping I could get away with it since it would make a cheap day trip for hubby and me!
