July Butterflies Master Thread

Since my unfill on Feb 2 and the start of a MONSTER period (it's making up for skipping last month), I've put on 3 lbs. I ain't changing that ticker though because it's coming right back off. I have a fill scheduled for next Tuesday and I'm desperate for it.

I hear ya! I lose..... change my ticker.....the weather gets warm...then I gain a couple lbs in Fluid. I have a cold right now and started taking children's liquid sudafed. Now my band is so tight when I try to eat Protein, it gets stuck.:tt2: So, I am eating mushies today.

Hi, Butterflies! Without notifications, I forget to come here and see how you are. I'm not losing fast, but it is coming off. No news on the job horizon for my husband, so my band is a little tighter. But that is a good thing, as there was room for that.

I have a surgical D&C scheduled for early March, so I've been doing the pre-op stuff required. I'm trying to get as much done as possible while we still have this really good health care coverage. I'm not sure what we'll have later. I'm going to get my mammogram done, too. Fun, fun, fun.

Congrats on the weight loss Orea. Slow and steady wins the race.

Sorry to hear about the no news on the job front. I hope your D&C goes smoothly.

Update: Even though my period hasn't departed, it's waning and this morning the scale showed that not only did I lose the extra 3 lbs I put on but an extra pound down. Yay!

hey all just checking in.. seems like all is well :D

Donna congrats on getting rid of those extra pounds.. my period always made me gain about 2 or 3 and then lose them after.

Orea- I will be praying for your D&c and the job front. and way to go you are so close to your next goal!

I am feeling alright.. I have started to feel nauseous but I am only hoping it stays this way and isnt a repeat of my last  but other than that my pants that were loose from losing are now a little snug in the waist. ;) as long as they dont get a lot snug everywhere else things will be ok! :(

well keep up the good work ladies..

Hey Gals,

What are you doing to exercise? I honestly haven't done any exercise at all. I just wasn't in the mindset to do it the first couple months I was banded. Since November I've had a toe injury and I can't do anything on my feet until it heals which could be many many months. Is anyone swimming? I just love to swim, hate the other stuff that comes with it. Getting out of the pool being cold and the effects of chlorine. I just ordered a fitness swimsuit and goggles and I want to start swimming badly. I know my strokes and I'm a good swimmer, I just don't know how to make it a real workout as I've never really swam for fitness. Any ideas?

I have taken Water aerobics before and it will kick your butt. Anything you do that is moving your arms and legs constantly will increase your heart rate. Also, you can buy aquatic weights to use while you are exercising. Check for them at probably academy sports. I am not sure whether Walmart or target carry them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
