July Butterflies Master Thread

Recommended Posts

I gave up on my local support group after 3 visits because it the was a goup of people who were not making much progress who had been banded for a while. The atmosphere was that of a hen house. One guy was in the group but he was a young punk who had lost 100+ lbs but was still chubby and flabby all over (ugly too) with a really snarky attitude. Can you feel the love? NOT!!

i finally broke my plateau of 250. I made it to 248. It took almost a month but I finally did it. Also I went to a support group a couple days ago. It was horrible! The doctor, nurse and nutritionist could not make it due to the 200 mile travel in bad weather. So they has a local doctor show and he just does the fills. He is new to the area also. Their was only 2 of us that showed up. The other gal was not to encouraging. I don't think I will go to another one of those again.
Congrats, I love seeing the butterflies succeed!!

Orea, get aggressive and go get another fill! I thought I was aggressive with fills:

1st, 3 ccs 4 weeks after banding

2nd .5 cc 2 weeks later

3rd .5 cc 2 weeks after that

4th .5 cc 3 weeks after that

5th .5 cc 5 weeks after that

The 4th felt kind of like sweet spot for a couple of days but wore off fast and it wasn't until I got my 5th that I finally realized how wonderful the band really is. I often forget to eat and never feel that growling hunger. When I skip meals because I forgot to eat and it's about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, I finally feel a bit hungry, it only takes a 1/4 cup of food to make the hunger stop but I usually go ahead and try to eat a full cup to make sure I'm getting in enough calories and nutrients. Nowadays, it's more a battle to get enough calories than too much. Not because I can't eat, but because I simply don't have the appetite and find that many foods I used to enjoy aren't really that tasty anymore.

I only had 2 fills so far but I guess they were pretty good ones, the first was 3.8 and the second ended up bringing me up to 4.4 after slight unfil. I ned need need a fill but I just have some other things going on. Like getting my breast finished hopefuly in Jan. and don't know if my Doc is going to make me get an unfill for surgery, won't know until Dec. 31st. I would hate to pay for a fill then an unfill and then a refill. So now I'm hungry with you Orea, but dealing I guess.

WOW, sounds like the holidays are doing a number on all of us. I did not get a fill today. I started thinking that I needed to work on my eating habits before getting a fill. I have just pb'd too much this last month. I am eating too fast, and with all the Christmas functions....I do not want to get stuck. Anyway, I can't get in until the middle of January. So, We will get through this season together.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
