July Butterflies Master Thread

I just got back from my second fill. I only had them put in 1 more ccs for a total of 2. They would be much more aggressive if I would let them. My friend who was banded 2 weeks prior to me went today also. Her port is turning/flipping. According to their scales I have dropped 47 lbs.

The doctor told her we could be losing up to 5 lbs per week. I say he's on crack.:tt2: I am NOT going to eat much less than what I am now. I am slowly taking it off and happy with my weight loss and the fact that I haven't been sick even once. I eat almost anything I want, just 1/2 (or less) of what I did prior to banding. I have gone down 3 sizes in my jeans and 2 sizes in my shirts. That is pretty good in my book. The only thing I need to change, is I need to get off my lazy (actually just REALLY tired) butt and haul it to the gym. :)

AMEN SISTER! Sometimes doctor who do bypass and banding forget who is who. I think 5-8lbs a month is awesome. Fortunately, my doctor thinks that is good too.

Hi, I was banded on July 22 2008. I have been losing slow but steady. I just bought a treadmill and plan on using it 5 days a week. I hope that will help me lose a little faster and firm up. Denise
losing slow? 60 lbs is fantastic! give yourself credit girl. That's my band date too. I have a treadmill and it hates me, so I go to curves 3 times a week and walk one of my dogs for 30 min. on the nights I'm not at curves. guess I should step it up.

Hey All just checking in...

stinks about all the possible leaking bands.... man I cant say if my band was leaking if I would go through all that again. well I hope it sincerely works out for all of you!

I myself have been having a rough past couple of days. I went on a retreat and did pretty well with the eating thing.. there was a lot of Snacks and crap and I did pretty well avoiding them. but then yesterday I must have made the wrong food choice from the start because I was running around so early in the morning.. because no matter what I was hungry all day... then Breakfast turned into lunch and another not filling choice and then on to dinner and I had fish which always makes me hungry like an hour later.. so anyhow I just felt like crap about myself all day because I felt like I was struggling to keep it together. I just gotta know when I am hungry to make good healthy choices of food that will stay with me for a bit.

anyways.. I wonder if I need another fill or if I just had a bad day. its only been 2 weeks since my last fill... but who knows maybe I need a little more...

Hey ladies, anyone struggling I mean STRUGGLING to not snack between meals. I feel like I'm making good meal choices but I have to fight hard not to snack between meal, especially at work when I'm sitting at my desk. Probably old habits, but any suggestions?

When you want to snack just try to drink alot of Water or try crystal lite and if you have to have something Atkins makes protien bars with only 2 net carbs and about 100 cals and not really bad.

Update from my previous post.....Our surgeon is DEFINITELY on crack. My friend had her fill yesterday and her port has moved, so the surgeon did her fill while the PA did mine. The PA normally does all the fills. The surgeon wound up filling my friend all the way to 10ccs, completely full, but she was told she only had 7ccs. She told him it felt kind of tight (remember, he thinks we can lose up to 5 lbs per week:blink:). He said to wait until the next day and if it was too tight, some could be taken out today.

Well....she couldn't sleep all night. She couldn't even swallow her own saliva. She called today and the other surgeon in the practice's staff was rude to her and she found out our surgeon was doing surgery in another city 2 hours away!!! My friend spent the entire day at school today going to the bathroom every 15 min. to "spit". When the PA got there this afternoon and took my friend's fill out, (complete unfill i told her to ask for )she was furious at the surgeon and told my friend to not let him to do a fill again. She said to please wait for her instead. He didn't listen to the amount she told him the previous day, so he wound up overfilling my friend instead of bringing her up to 7ccs. He does an excellent job on the surgery, but is too aggressive on fills.

My friend is frustrated and I told her to let her stomach swelling go down over the holidays and enjoy her vacation next week and start her fills again after, and THIS time be more conservative.

So, for the people wanting a surgeon to be more aggressive with the fills, please be patient. It is much better to be conservative and not be sick, than to be aggressive and be very ill.

dont get discouraged sue you can do it 25 pounds is nothing to sneeze at how much are you eating at each sitting? i found that i was eating to much and when i stopped that i started losing fast. i now eat between 5-7 tablespoons of food per meal and 2-3 inbetween if i find i am hungry.

You ladies are doing great! Daisey, I think I'm going to try to down size the portions a little, My Doc told me to eat 1/2 a cup but the fill center told me to eat 3/4 of a cup. I've been doing it the fill centers way and I've been kinda stuck lately so I'm gonna try the Docs way this week and see if I can get that scale moving again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
