Hi all,

I'm three days post op and getting better by the hour. I even made it to a baseball game today! Yay me!! My question is about coffee. I know I can have coffee on the clear fluids stage so does that mean I can have starbucks lol?? I don't mean anything crazy but I could go for a fat free vanilla latte! Anybody try this. Or even an iced coffee. I am getting tons of Water in haven't broke any clear fluids rules yet so I thought I would double check with the "experts". Thanks for your help!

Leslie

I started drinking iced Decaf coffees with skim milk and Splenda- fat free Creamer is better. Some days I have an iced decaf skim latte. Just take it really slow, small sips, and it will probably take you 2 days to finish a small. I'm finally free of caffeine's grip on me, so I'm trying not to go back there. I just love the taste of coffee!

On the diet sheets that my nutritionist gave me, it said no coffee (decaf) until Stage 4 (week 3). I agree with the caffeine grip - I'm going to try to not to go back to it, but somehow French Vanilla Decaf just doesn't make it. I'm also finding that after three weeks, I'm really not missing it that much. You may want to stay away from the lattes in the clear liquid stage.

Good luck!

Hi! I was banded on June 23rd. 2 hours after surgery, I was brought my lunch tray. Included on the tray was Sanka! My doc said that I could have Decaf coffee (with skim milk and splenda).

I'm six weeks out and have been drinking alittle 1/2 caff in the morning. I know, I know... But, it's my only vice I have left! I have 2 little ones and don't get the sleep I should. Haven't had any trouble - in fact, it is soothing in the AM when the band is tight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
