Following post-op food list, before being banded?

Recommended Posts

Hopefully I'll be banded within the next 6 months, however, I'd like to start trying to lose some of the weight.

Weighed myself the other day and I've gained 5lbs since my last visit to the doctor.

Current BMI is 38, but even if I lose 10-15lbs I'll still be above 35 BMI.

Have people before being approved and banded, followed the post-op diets of Clear liquids, mushies, etc. and tried to get into the new lifestyle that comes after being banded?

Is this a good idea?

Before my band i lost some weight by doing slim fast 3-4 times a day with one 500 cal meal. Pair that up with wallking and it worked for me. Thats not the after band diet but i feel drinking the slim fast more then eating got me ready for the 2 weeks after the band that was just liquid. As a matter of fact that was the best and by far easiest stage for me. best of luck!!

if you would like to follow the 3-4 slim fast plan talk to ur doc 1st ... its different for everyone.

i am doing a week of very nearly following the pre-op diet. the only difference is that when i get home from work i have a special k Cereal bar. my plan is to do this for 2 weeks and then take that out completely and therefore be on the pre op diet (i do not need to do liquids) for the 2 weeks before surgery. i have done this since sunday, i know not a very long time, but as i can have as much veg as i want, then i am full most of the time. which makes it easier.

Hi there. My nutritionist recommended that I begin in pre-op. It makes life after surgery so much easier because you are already use to the adjustment. It also shrinks your liver which is a good thing. I saw the instruments that they use during surgery and decided that anything that I could do to make it easier on my body, I would do. Do you have a nutritional plan? I'd be happy to share the one that they gave me with you. I'm 8 month out and 50 pounds lighter. Only 39 more pounds to go.

Best,

Aimee

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
