Surgery July 7th!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled on July 7 with Dr. Kim in Celebration, FL. I am scared but at the same time I am so excited. I have been on clears for 6 days now, and I feel proud becasue I've never done anytinig like this before. It is getting easier and I'm able to be more active than I was on days 1-4. I've lost 7 pounds so far.

Welcome, slim! Looks like your post slipped through the cracks yesterday and no one answered you. Sometimes that happens, since there is so much going on at this board every day and a post can get buried. congratulations on sticking with your pre op diet. It does give you a feeling of empowerment, like you are finally taking control of your life, doesn't it?

Hi Slim1 I am being banded on 7/7 also. I am being banded by Dr.Ortiz in Mexico. I am both scared and excited.

I was banded on July 2 and I was scared and excited at the same time. Mostly scared so that is normal. When I woke up from surgery and realized I was alive, that's when the excitement really kicked in! I am doing well and very happy with my decision. Good luck to you all. I have been there and know exactly how you feel. You will be fine. It's hard, but try not to worry.

How did your surgery go? I'm so glad it's over-the anticipation is always the worst. B/c of the pre-op diet, I'm usd to drinking and not eating. So far, so good.

I am also happy with my decision. It's good to be on the other side of the surgery, isn't it?

Slim1,

Can't believe you are up and on the computer already! Glad you are doing good. So how are you feeling today? I'm sure you are sore. I am 6 days post op and doing well. I went back to work today, and trying to take it easy still. I am a little sore still, but not bad. I've lost 9 lbs since surgery, but I don't know how to move my "ticker" yet. 9 lbs gone forever! Looking forward to this lapband journey! Keep us posted! :(

COngratulations on your great weight loss!, and I'm happy to hear you are doing well. Yes, I'm sore but feeling better every day. I'm getting frustrated b/c the scale has not gone anywhere since the day before surgery! (I did lose 12 pounds before surgery.)

Thanks Slim1,

Actually, right after the surgery I gained like 5 lbs due to the I.V. that I was hooked up to for fluids and some gas too I'm sure. So I actually took off the 9 lbs + the temporary 5 lbs gained from surgery. (So 14 total, but I don't count the 5 from surgery). You won't see a weight change for several days, then BOOM!, it just starts falling off! Good luck to you and I am glad you are feeling better! (Now I am going to try to fix this ticker! Thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
