I need My Band removed

Recommended Posts

I have had my band in for 1 year. My hair is still falling out and getting very thin. I have always had thick and long hair and now it is to the point I can't wear a pontail. I have done everything I was told to do including having a prescripyion for Biotin 1000 mg. No one is giving me valid reasons as to why my hair continues to fall. All my nutrients are normal according to the blood tests I've taken. I have delveloped scar tissue around the port so it is difficult to fill because they cannot feel the port right away because of the scar tissue. I feel pain each time the nurse sticks the needle in to find the port. I have been in the hospital beacuse my food was stuck and I could not breathe. I have had very painful experience and I'm  still losing my hair.I want my hair back thick and full and long and healthy experiences. No one has answers for this. :crying:

Gee I'm sorry to read that Kaye. Are you eat at least 50 grams of Protein a day? Also don't forget your essential fatty acids, olive oil, flax seed oil, fish oil for example. But even if you have your hair thinning problem resolved I'd be concerned about your fill issue. Pain on insertion and food stuck isn't a good way to live. Sorry I don't have any answers but I wanted to wish you luck and hope things can be resolved.

Sorry to hear what is going on with you. Have you ever tried to going to a Holistic Doctor? Even before I had surgery, I had a few serious health conditions and was not able to find any help with anyone in traditional med. However, I did consult with a Holistic Dr. in my area and I meet a lot of women who have cured many health problems and many of these women helped me along the way. When I had my lapband, I had a few problems with poor nutrient-dense food. My mouth stayed dry, my hair was thinning out, my shin was dry. This is what I did and to cure my problems, I juiced fresh juice, buy a juice book in the book store to get info on what juices you should drink. Take lots of fish oil and eat only raw foods for 10 days. You will see a big difference.

To address you issue with getting your band removed, Please wait until you do your clease of fresh juice, raw foods and fish oil before doing so. You might have more difficulties with having the band removed. I wish you well and I will pray for you today. You can e-mail me if you have any questions michelle.jones35@yahoo.com

Hi Kaye. This must be really hard for you, but please reconsider before having your band removed -

hair loss is fairly common and normal for anyone losing lots of weight, no matter how they do it (diet, lap band, bypass, etc). Once you've gotten to your goal weight and you stop losing, your hair will come back as thick and beautiful as before. This is pretty common with significant weight loss.

I don't remember the exact scientific cause of this, but my doctor did warn me of it and said not to worry, that my hair would come back when I was done with my weight-loss.

Also, you need to discuss the port and vomiting issues with your doctor. Can they give you an injection of local anesthetic when they do your fills so it doesn't hurt while they're poking around? And it sounds like they need to work with you a little more on just finding the right fill level for you so that you can eat without throwing up.

All of this can be worked through, Kaye. Just talk to your doctors more. Don't feel like this has to be the end.

Best wishes.

Yes! I had to do the horrible low-carb diet for six weeks (it sucked, it was really depressing and hard :)) but I did it and it worked! I went back and got banded on June 23rd!!! YAY! (This is me jumping up and down shrieking! LOL)

Regarding hair loss....have you seen this?

Hair Loss: Biotin is food for Your Hair

The article gives a good explanation about the connection between Biotin deficiency and Hair loss. You might also be interested to know that biotin binds easily with Protein, so if you have been taking your biotin supplement with or near the time you have a meal or any Protein supplement, you may not have been getting biotin's full benefits.

You might consider talking with a dietician about your nutritional intake and, I don't know if there is such a thing, but getting tested to see if you are biotin deficient.

Hang in there. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
