There have been several of those threads, so I don't know which one you saw.

Before: prepare things just like you would if you had the flu/getting any other type of surgery. You want to have frozen meals, pizza money for teen...tanks full for cars.... all bills paid or anything that needs tending. Laundry done as well.

Get your meds filled so you'll have them when you get home. And do the grocery shopping beforehand, too. Get all your favorite drinks.

Many will require things others don't. I didn't need much of anything post-op because I slept so much. But others need books/ heating pads, Protein shakes, bathrobes, slippers, matching this and that...the list can go on forever.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

MicheleK, I don't find any replies to the questions on there. I too would like to know what all I need to have on hand after I get home

from surgery. Any information appreciated.

Here are some things I had ready:

A small scale for weighing foods later on (ordered it online)

Small cups (about 5 oz) to eat out of

Small spoons (like mini coffee spoons)

liquid Vitamin

liquid or chewable calcium citrate

Chewable Zinc (required by surgeon)

Pill crusher if you are on any meds that don't come in liquid form

A heating pad - GREAT for the post-op shoulder and back pain:thumbup:

Gas-X strips

Liquid Tylenol

A toilet seat riser - just for extra comfort the first week

Filled other prescriptions my surgeon gave me (Liquid Vicodin, phenergan)

Isopure Zero Carb Protein Drink (tastes good and goes with a clear liquid diet)

A sampling of Protein shakes and whey Protein that I tried before surgery

sugar free Jello, Broths, sugar free pudding in the Fridge

Lip Balm

Comfortable lounge clothes

Plan on sleeping on a couch or recliner. Last night (post op day 4) was the first night I could sleep in my bed comfortably.

I only took me and my glasses to the hospital and the lip balm. Didn't need a thing while there. Had a pillow pre-positioned in the car for the ride home.

With these supplies, I have had a very comfortable week. I did not have to go shopping for anything!

Good Luck to you!

I went by one of the lists on here and ended up spending a little unnecessary money just because of the way my doctor did things. Check with your surgeon before buying any type of bandages, because if he uses adhesive to close you up, you won't need the gauze or tape. Also, I only had to do 24 hours of Clear Liquids and could then move to full liquids, so didn't really need all of the broth, juice, etc I had bought to last 2 weeks. That was my fault though because I wasn't as insistant about getting clear answers to my questions as I should have been when discussing the post-op diet with his PA.

About the tongs....I just couldn't deal with that, so I got the toilet seat riser. Makes it so easy to sit down and you can reach more easily...

Oops, I'm sorry I could've sworn the "shopping list" was posted in that area. I'm glad you found the answers you needed. :)

Good luck with your surgery!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
