I had a dream the other night, that i woke up monday morning and took a drink. so they canceled my surgery. I know i am crazy. Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for last minute nerves. Also any suggestions on what is best to help get your energy back after surgery. How soon can i work out? what is the best Protein Shakes? affordable. :(

The waiting is the scary part. You'll be in good hands and all will be well. Everyone of us goes through the scared part, and once it is over it's downhill from there!

Dreams are funny, no? The day before I got banded I dreamed they did a bypass on me by mistake! Now THAT was scary.

Good luck on Monday-we'll all be sending positive vibes that way!

Everything is gonna be fine! I was banded June 16th and I was so nervous - I had asthma attacks 2 nights before surgery which lasted 6 hrs because I was panicking so much!!!!

After surgery I was thinking - what???? All that panicking for nothing!!!! I don't deal well with pain either and I was fine. (Not that much pain)

I am glad I did this and you will be too! So just try to relax because you have nothing to worry about

Hang in there!!! The wait is harder than the surgery....just be sure to walk around as soon as you can...I had NO gas pains and only one time felt naseaus sp?.....and that was after they switched my pain med...so I got up and walked and felt better in 5 minutes...so walk walk walk....

There was a guy in the room next to mine...his surgery was before mine and I was walking before he was...I could hear jim moaning and groaning the whole time...our nurse said..."hey go walk into his room and suggest that he walk with you around the hall circle"...LOL OH, I did go in!!!!

Finally, he got up and we walked...too funny!

Good Luck

I had my surgery on Friday, June 27th. The soreness you will feel is nothing. Today I'm looking foward to getting out and walking a little. I don't want to over do it, but I feel like a new woman! I wish the best for you tomorrow and remember you will be starting a new chapter in your life. Let us know how you are doing in a few days.

Everyone has the same worries right before surgery. The fear is much worse than the reality. Well, actually, the pre-surgery prep is not too much fun either. Just remember to follow your Dr.'s orders to a tee. When you are being pestered to get up and walk, just remember walking is the best thing you can do. I was worried about getting the shoulder pain from the gas but that didn't happen.:) The best thing about when you follow your dietary instructions is you WILL lose weight quickly in the beginning. That is the best part of the experience. Of course, it slows down, plateaus and gets harder later but in the beginning....it is GREAT!!

Hey Fluff - I'm right there with you! I check in tomorrow morning at 5:30am and set to have surgery at 7:30!!! I understand your anxiety and nervousness...I'm all balled up and ready to explode!! And for the first time in 2 weeks since being on the pre op diet, I find myself starving but that is probably because I CAN'T eat. Yikes!! Tomorrow is going to be here before we know it!! whoo hoo!!

Hi there. Good luck with the banding.

I was done on 25th June.

Nervousness is totally natural. I thought I would have a heart attack waiting for the aneasthetist to knock me out. Just before, I looked at the clock and it was 11.40am - as soon as I came round, I looked at the clock again, and it was 1pm - as quick as that.

I would agree with the others, mobilising definately helped with gas and nausea, although rest is important too. Here's to a new you. xx

:)

PS - haven't weighed myself yet, but due to the pre-op diet and the past few days, I'm down a dress size already!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
