Mamato, Give yourself a BIG break. Giong from 8 minutes to 20 is a HUGE jump!!! Somewhat insane actually. You ran for 12 minutes straight. Think about that. How long could you run 5 weeks ago. You are doing amazing. I would suggest that you take the day off and then repeat the 20 minute run. Run as far as you can and then walk. Don't beat yourself up. Take it slow, and gradually increase it. You should be very proud!!! I am very proud of you!! Keep getting back on that treadmill!!!

Okay, I just did what I hoped to be my last day of week 2. I woke up this morning and my knee felt fine, it actually felt normal. So, I go to the gym and start my running. About halfway through my run my knee started hurting. I probably should have stopped, but I ran through it and finished my run. Now, my knee is hurting again.

I don't know what to do. It usually bothers me after my runs and some on my off days, but when it's time to run again it feels better. So, I run and then the whole process starts over.

I did wear my knee support band today and it seemed to hurt worse. I dunno?? I've never had any knee problems so I don't know what a pulled muscle or ligament would feel like.

What do you guys think???? Should I start icing it or applying heat???

Apply ice after the injury then after 48 hours you can alternate ice and heat. I think start with ice and use Tylenol to help with any swelling.

I have never had a knee injury Georgia. All I know is what Sugar said re: ice and heat. Hope it gets better real soon.

I did my jillian micheal dvd today. I am adding this to my running. It is a set of 5 dvd's. you do one each day except Wed and Sat. These are the rest days.

DH has challenged me to let him hide the scales for 1 month. He said that he would love to see me follow my eating plan, run, and do my Jillian DVD's for 1 month without regard to the scales. He thinks the dvd's will make me gain muscle and I think he is afraid I will become discouraged. He is supposed to be thinking of a reward for me if I do this. He tries to be sooo very supportive. I am soooooo addicted to weighing. This will be really hard. I think I am going to weigh in the morning and then give it a go!! Oh my!!

Georgia - My nurse hubby said RICE - Rest, Ice, compression, and elevate.

Renewed - I am addicted to the scales too. I think I need therapy for this disorder.

Hello, my name is Lynn, I too am addicted to the scales. I use to hate the scale, but after my lapband, I thought I would try it just once. Then before you know it I was weighing everyday. I am ashamed to say it but, I have even used it 3 times in one day. But S.A. (Scales Ananomous ) has helped me see that I can have overcome this addiction!

You are too funny Lyn. I think I am going to take DH up on his offer. I am waiting to see waht the prize is.) I told him that this is a big deal, so he better make it worthwhile. We'll see what he comes up with.

I too am addicted to the scales. I weigh myself every morning, except when I forget and have my coffee first. Then I get mad at myself because it is not an appropriate measure. Renewed, I'll join you in that challenge. I'll weigh myself in the morning and then not again until Sept 5th (just before Labour Day).

Georgia, I've injured my knees in the past. Last summer DH and I were out golfing and I tripped in a hole and wrenched my knee. Then later in that week I tripped over the dog in the middle of the night and further compromised them. I was in a lot of pain for a long time. In fact, when I had my lapband surgury I was using a cain still to get around. The phsyiotherapist had me follow the RICE program too, but she also had me do some stabalization exercises to improve the muscles. Good luck.

I did my Week 3, Day 3 run today and had success! I didn't have to slow down at all and was able to run all intervals. So, I'm going to move on to week 4 on Tue. I probably won't be able to do the 5 min. intervals, but will give it a try.

I go to the doctor one day next week. Not sure what day. Kathy, can we start this challenge the day following my dr appointment so it will actually be a whole month???? I am going to have DH hide my scales so that I won't know where they are. I shouldn't be able to cave that way!!

Going to the doctor is medically necessary, so I think that it should not count. We will all have a doctors appointment at one time or another.

So we weigh Monday morning and then not again until Labor Day Monday. YIKES!!!!

By rest, does that mean I have to hold off on my runs for a while or just rest a lot in between?? Can you tell I don't want to hold off on my runs??

I got to thinking, and I very well could have stepped on it wrong or something when I fell and twisted my ankle. I didn't really notice it hurting right then, but that's the only thing I can think of that might have injured me.....

BTW, I too am a scale addict and I want in on the challenge too! I don't know how in the world I am going to do it, but I will give it a try!

I know you all have already started but I think I will try to start this week as well. How is everyone doing so far? It's been such a long time since I've done any type of running that I think I'm ready for the challenge. Wish me luck!!

Georgia - I think Rest means Rest at least for a few days. You don't want to do more harm. It is better to rest for a few days than to be totally out for awhile.

Tootie - Welcome.

scale challenge - update your ticker when you weigh in today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
