Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I have noticed that sometimes after I run, I am tighter than usual. Maybe I should start running everyday????

Welcome Turler!! Cancer has probably affected all us in some way or another. It's so inspiring to hear survivor stories like yours. I was telling DH the other day that after my 5k next month, I wanted to try and find one that was for a good cause, like cancer. Running IS very liberating for me and I've come to love it!! So jump in, the first run is always to hardest.

Leslie~ I'm getting nervous too!! The important thing is that we finish!! We can improve our time and pace later. We can do it!!

Welcome Turler. Thanks for sharing your story with us. I am with Georgia jut jump in there and do it. It is hard in the beginning and then you end up running like you never dreamed you could. However, know that if you aren't running you are still welcome here. This has become a sanctuary of support for me.

I felt better last night. I drank a cup of coffee after my last post then slept well. I've had coffee this morning and did fine. I still can tell my band is tighter, but that is a good thing. I didn't have a lot of restriction before now. So, if it was my run then that's just another benefit of running. I just have to adjust my eating. It really was weird though, because I only ate meat and not even a lot of it. I don't thnk I chewed it well enough or ate it slow enough. I will be more careful today. We have homeschool coop today so I won't beback on until tonight. Everyone have a Great day!!

Btw, Kathy, your kiddos are beautiful. You are right, you daughter does look lie you. That is pretty cool. God has a geat sense of humor.

Ok, folks, I'm back in the game. It's been 8 days since my operation and my tummy is just about pain free (still a little pulling when I bend), so time to get off my butt and get back into it. My back has been giving me serious pain for the last couple of days (sciatic nerve) and I planned to ease back in with some very gentle walking.

Well!! After 5 minutes of very gentle walking, my back felt better enough that I pushed the pace up to 5 more minutes of fast walking. After that, the pain had diminished to the point that I was brave enough to try the jog/walk pattern again! I only did 10 minutes of that, then a 3 minute cooldown walk, but my back is almost painfree now! Who woulda thunk it?

Tomorrow, I'm back on track for the full 30 minute session!! :)

Thanks everyone...

Did you find it easier to start on a treadmill or outside? I don't know how fast to put the treadmill...a little scared! LOL I currently power walk at 3.5 mph.

By the way- I just bought new running shoes--Livestrong-Nike+. They are pretty cool looking, and 100% of the profit goes to cancer research. All kinds of cancer, not just one. Cool, huh?

Renewed~ Have a great day!!

Fanny~ Welcome back! Sounds like you are doing fantastic!! Just be careful and don't over do it! Glad to have you back!

Turler~ Very cool shoes! I'm gonna have to get a new pair around Christmas. Do they have the nike+ system chip??

I started out running outside, then switched to the treadmil, mainly because it was so flippin' hot here. I just recently switched back to running outside and I love it! The weather has been really nice here in the evenings. I find the treadmil to be boring after running outside.

Don't worry about speed. Go as slow as you need to go. I don't run very fast. I focus more on endurance for now. Good luck to you!

Don't have a lot of time to post... will later. It's my DH's B-day, so were having fun!

We ran the 5k race route and I did it in 40:20 !!! That's almost 4 min faster than when I did the race! Having DH beside me to cheer me on was a real bonus!

Then we went to our favourite sushi restaurant for lunch and then decided to run a bit further around our park, so we ran another 1.5k and that was in 11:04 min, which is at a slightly faster pace than my morning run. So... I did a total of 6.5k today, and 15.5k so far for the week!!!

Had to share with you guys!!! Will drop back in this evening. Have a great day!

WTG Kathy!! Wonderful!! Sounds like ya'll are having a wonderful day. Wish your hubby happy birthday for me!

I am feeling a tad under the weather today (sinus junk), but I am still going to run. I can't afford to miss a run day if I want to be ready for the 5K.

I would not run ANY faster than 4.5-4.8 to start with!

I really wanted to run one more race before my surgery, but didn't know of any around here. Well, I just found out that there is a 10k about 20 miles from here tommorow. It is called the Tator Trot. Anyway, I have never run a 10K before but why not. In true Renewed fashion I am running a 10K in the morning. Wish me well. I have run 5 miles each of the last 3 days so my body is a bit fatigued, but I can do. I am going to bed now so I can be well rested for my newly found race. :) and the entry fee is only $7. WooHoo. Goodnight my LITE friends.

Yes, they have the chip. I bought the chip, but have forgotten to use the iPod part every time I work out. I need to get in the habit of using it. I like the chip though, it's pretty neat!

Thanks for the advice on where to start. I am nervous about starting on the treadmill, but I like the idea of having so much control over the time and speed. Plus if I wear out I can just stop! :tt2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
