Hi all,

I haven't been able to run for the past 2 days due to evacuations in the New Orleans area. I live south of New Orleans and my family and I have evacuated for the moment. All is well so far. Just hard to sit and wait for the impending storm and what will be the aftermath. I tried to jog around the neiborhood of where we are staying but it's definately not the same as a treadmill. I will do what I can and just pick up where I left off when I can. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Tootie, So sorry about all that is going on. We live in East Texas. There are lots of evacuees around. After katrina a family lived in my parents house next door for almost a year. I don't have anyway to contact them. I pray they are ok. They lived in the lower ninth ward. Anyway, where did you evacuate to? My prayers are with you and your family.

I just completed week 10, day 1. It is a 35 minute run. I ran it at 5.1. It was very hard, but I hear Rocky music!!!! Maybe that is some redemption for my non10K this morning!! LOL

TODAY IS WEIGH IN DAY!!!

Okay, okay so I cheated a few weeks back and weighed. I stopped running. (I could list a bunch of excuses, but to tell you the truth, I have no real excuse) I do miss running and I miss checking in with you girls and keeping up with your lives and your running and weight loss success. I do plan on starting c25k again and I do plan on finishing the program.

With all that said, I have lost 5 pounds this month.

Best of luck with your running and weight loss success. I am proud of you all for sticking with the program and progressing to the next level. I'll get back on track and check in with you again.

Hi Everyone. Hope you had a great long weekend. I'm hoping everyone close to a Gustov strike zone is ok and if evacuated, is doing ok as well!!! I couldn't imagine the fear that creates.

I had a nice weekend. We went back to Toronto for the day to visit my DH's aunt. She's a sweet lady who never married, and has no kids. She just adores our kids and has a special place in our hearts.

I have to admit... I'm on a high still about my weight loss. I was bouncing around for so long with no tangible loss, that to see the 4.5 down was a real boost! I'm now only 20 lbs away from "Onederland" and my lowest weight since ever knowing my DH! I don't care how long it takes, I just know its going to happen!

I haven't run since Friday, but plan to do so again in the morning. This time I'm going to try running outside!!! For the first time!!! I want to change it up a bit.

Renewed... no worries about not doing the 10k. You still heard the Rocky music on your graduation run! Congrats. You've paved the way for all of us!

Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I had a busy one and haven't even been on the website in a couple of days. I did manage to get my run in on Sunday. I decreased my walk time in between the runs. After the 3 minute runs, I walked 2 minutes. After my 5 minute runs, I walked 2 and a half minutes. So, I'm only walking an extra 30 seconds on each interval now. A week ago, I never would have thought I could run for 5 straight minutes...TWICE! I love this program!!

Tootie~ Sorry you had to evacuate. I hope you are doing okay and I'm praying for you and your family.

Renewed~ Congrats on your week 10 run! You are soooo rockin' this! You're an inspiration to all of us!!

Kathy~ Congrats again on the weight loss! Great job!

I weighed this morning and I lost the 2 lbs I had gained. Now I'm back at my ticker weight. I started eating low carb again today so I'm hoping that will help jump start my weight loss again. I will have some carbs before my runs but other than that, it will be low carb.

Georgia, That is pretty much what I am doing as far as diet. I got a .4cc unfill on Friday, and it is amazing how much better I feel. I haven't pb'd at all and I am able to get in the calories I need to run. I never thought I would need to eat more. That is so wild.

Well, it appears Gustov is headed our way. We usually don't get much from hurricaines other than rain, but this storm is still supposed to be a tropical storm when it gets here. The rain started a little tonight, but should get bad tommorow. Then the storm is supposed to stall out over east texas dumping rain. I think they are saying we could get 15 - 20 inches of rain. Wow!! I don't know how long we will have electricity, so if it goes out I will check bac in with yall as soon as i can.

Tootie, how are you doing??

Renewed~ I hope it doesn't get bad where you live. We got quite a bit of wind and rain from Faye. Lots of tornado watches and a couple of warnings around us. I really don't like bad weather, especially the wind. Be safe and keep us updated if you can.

Tootie, I hope you are doing okay...

Hi everyone, I would love to join this support thread. I was banded this last June and have lost 55lbs so far. I started exercising about 3 weeks ago. I am up to 1hr-1hr 10min and I am doing some jogging intervals especially up the hills on my route. My husband, brother in law and sister in law all do the Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving which is 4.7miles. They are encouraging me to go. They also have a place for walkers after the runners. Do you think it is possible with this link to be able to jog/run 4.7 within this time frame using the link you all have been using? I would really like to do this-I just am feeling a little unsure of myself at the moment.

IM BAAAACKK!

So I fell into old habits which I swore I wasnt going to do. When I got back from Seattle a week ago, I said I was going to get right back on track....easier said than done. I didn't binge (which is what the old me would have done) but I ate whatever I wanted (ice cream, chips, cheeseburgers, ect). I gained 4 pounds in a week! I have spent most of adult life yo-yoing like this, so here I am...back today before it spins out of control. Im going to get back on the treadmill toay. I haven't worked out in the week and Im a little worried about my runs. I don't want to have to start ALL over. I am going to back to week 7 and hopefully I will be able keep up!

Everyone here seems to be doing great! I didn't get a chance to read thru all posts though!

Welcome Skinny. yes I think you can do that run. Just see how you progress through the couch to 5k and you will be pleased. If you don't run all of it, you will definately be able to run a large portion of it. I say GO FOR IT!!

Welcome back Bonnie. Don't be too hard on yourself. Afterall, that is why you are getting banded, right?? Good for you for getting back on track. No looking back, only forward!!

Gustov is dying quickly and turned a little to the east. We are getting rain and wind, but they don't anticipate the flooding that they were predicting yesterday, so all looks good here.

Skinny... welcome! You might not be able to run the full distance by then, but you certainly will be able to run a lot of it!! Set your goal and go for it! Make a plan of run/walk and that should get you through. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Renewed... glad to hear you're out of danger. I've been glued to CNN watching the storm details. Very relieved it wasn't worse!

Georgia... you are doing great! Keep it up and you'll do the full 5k on your chili run!

Bonnie... You just derailed your freight train to bingeville! Congrats! The first step is recognizing what you are doing and then taking the right steps to stop it. Don't worry about back tracking on your running. You'll be fine. Your muscles will remember where you were and be back there in just a couple of runs!

Guest Leslie2Lose

Good afternoon everyone/morning afternoon - somewhere in there. We got back from the beach early. We didn't know what the hurricane was going to do. We were under a tropical storm warning and didn't want the roads to wash out - so we had a day at the beach. We had so much fun! We took the kids to a Water park and I rode everything! I could climb the seven story tower (The White Knuckle River Raft Ride) without being winded. I even ran to the top one time (racing DDs). I really don't think I would have been able to do it without C25K! I'm in better shape than I thought! Woot!!!

I didn't make it to the gym this morning for my run, but I'm starting back on Wednesday. I haven't ran in almost a week. I think I'm going to re-do week 3 and start week 4 next week.

Georgia - congratulations on your loss!

Bonnie - hang in there. Today is a new day!

Renewed - I hope the weather holds for you.

Skinny - Welcome!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
