I am trying not to beat myself up here! I ate too much yesterday, had the munchies big time! I was up most of the night and felt like I was burning up, so I don't know if it was because of overeating, too many carbs (I didn't eat any high carb foods, but way too many mixed nuts) but I probably only got 4 hours of sleep and not straight through! I was sort of mad at myself because since I started my "new life" as I call it, I stopped a lot of bad habits, one of them being sleeping in, for almost all last school year I would get the kids off to school and go back to bed for another 2 hours of sleep. I promised myself I was not going to do that...well YESTERDAY I did, I slept for an hour and maybe that is the reason I couldn't go to sleep yesterday...I have no idea! I was sure not to do that this morning, although I was sooo freakin tired from not sleeping last night. I got the kids off to school and immediately went to the gym (with total dread). I was really struggling to go 4.0 and still felt like it was way too hot and so I went down to 3.8 (which is still a run for these thunder thighs!) and did my 25 minute run for week 7. I was proud of myself for getting it done when the old me would have said "nope...too tired and too hot to go workout". So there...I just turned my negative into a positive!

Bonnie - good for you for getting up and running!

Now as for your pity-party (which is what I call my momentary laps of insanity), we all have them now and again. I've had quite a few myself recently. It's over and done with. You've already picked yourself back up. That's what is important! Perhaps you needed the nap...sometimes we all need extra rest. You had an off night and that's okay. Don't beat yourself up over it. Today is a new day!

You're kicking bootay with your running!!!

Mamato... hugs and support being sent your way! I'm so sorry for the ordeal you will be facing, but so happy the surgury was a success. I was thinking about you and your DH on Monday, hoping he'd come through with less pain. I know his recovery is going to be slow and the burden will fall to you, but at least he is on the path to recover. Stay strong, and unload on us whenever you feel like it!

Bonnie... let it go! Beating up on yourself is the fast road to giving up, so forgive yourself and keep on runnin'

Ok, since I didn't make the full 20 min last time, I'm going to continue with the "Quest for 20" by running until I have to stop. I did 11 minutes last time, so if I can make it to 13, I'll be happy. However, my energy level is really low right now, so not sure if I'll make it or not?

I spent yesterday at the hospital getting my eye checked out... apparently I have "pink eye", which is no big deal. I've had it before when my son was young. But since neither of the kids have it, and I don't know where I got it, they wanted to do some tests to make sure it wasn't something else. Well, now I know my eyes are great... except for the pink eye. 3 different doctors checked them out, so I had drops in on 3 different times.... Yuck!

Wow, it's been slow today!

I did my run, and made some improvement over Monday. I ran the total 20 min, but had to stop to catch my breath a few times, so walked in between for a min at a time. So I did: 13 run; 1 walk; 3 run; 1 walk; 2 run; 1 walk; 2 run; cool down. I felt really good up until about 12:45, then I just couldn't catch my breath. I think it was a bit psychological, because I set my goal at 13 min, so my body gave me all it had until then. I notice that after I stop the first time, I have a hard time keeping it going after that... hence all the short runs.

Lyn, I tried your breathing advice "in - TWO" and IT WORKED!!! I kept doing it whenever I couldn't really catch my breath and it really helped!!! THANKS!!! It also helped that I ran at a slower pace. Instead of the 4.5, I ran at 4.3 and I could sustain it longer.

Oh, I love my running. It makes me feel so much stronger, and has helped me deal with my stress!

well, we have been out since 8 this morning. We had parent visits and the a preplacement visit for my kiddos. I really liked the family that they will be going to live with. They were very very nice. I really feel good about it. I will take them to their new home Tuesday. I am going to run late tonight. I am actually thinking of moving on to week 9. I have only done 1 day of week 8, but then I ran 3 more minutes after the cool down. week 9 is only 2 minutes longer than week 8, and I think I am ready, so we'll see. I can't believe I am almost running 5k. Pretty cool. I am really tired tonight and thought about not running, but it seems to be calming these days (boy, I never thought I would say that!!).

Way to go on the run Kathy!! That is awesome. You will cut out those 1 minute walks in no time!!

Mamato, How are you today??

Kathy,

I'm in the same place - can't do the 20 minutes -- I did 9 minutes then 5 of walking then another 9 minutes of jogging. The next day (yesterday) I did 10min each of jogging and 4 minute of walking in the middle. Tomorrow - I'm going for 11 or 12 minutes each of walking and cutting short the warm up and cool down periods so I'm still at 30 minutes (have to get out of the gym quick to pick up DS from dayccare). So I'm calling it the modified for me c25k from now on! LOL

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. My life is a whirlwind right now. I'm not sure I know which way is up. DH had a pretty good day today. They finally have his pain tolerable and he is able to rest. We got the results of the culture today and he has MRSA! ughhh! I really can't believe this is all happening. I know there is always a chance to develop an infection with surgery, but geez we really need a break here. I want to make him better so badly and I feel so helpless. I just keep trying to work through one day at a time and not worry about how to get through all of this. I am praying there is not going to be any long term consequences from the infection.

I hope to get some running in tomorrow. I bought the Jillian Michaels DVD's and I am excited to try one of those after I get the house cleaned up tonight. I love the running, but any exercise is better then nothing. I hope these DVD's kick my butt like she kicks butt on t.v!

Serenity... modifications work too!!! Sounds like you have the right plan going.

Renewed... I'm glad the family is nice and you feel good about them. I'll keep you in my prayers all weekend and on Tuesday as your family transitions. Way to go on the run! You're going to hit your "Graduation Day" next week! Congrats!

Mamato... My thoughts and prayers are with you right now. Hang in there. I don't know much about MRSA, but if they know what it is, they must know how to treat it, and he will heal up. Take care, and enjoy your time to unwind with your running.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
