Sugar, You are too funny. No, I am not sick, just tired. I really have pushed it to the limit, so.....I decided to take a day off. I have this fear that if I don't go 200% then I will just quit, so a day off was a good test for me. I hope my body is thankful!! We'll see when I get ready to run tommorow.

Glad your legs are feeling better. I have heard that procedure can be very painful. You seem to be doing really well..

Thanks for the post-workout nutrition advice. I'll drink my milk next time. I'm excited... DH and I are going to play a round of golf! I love golfing, especially with him. We are both relative beginners and well suited to play together. He hits long and erratic, I hit short and straight. In the end we both score within 2-3 strokes of each other. This is the first round I've played since losing my job. Sucks to have to watch every stinking penny :D, but until I get a job, that's my life. We get to play today because we received a free round as a promo. Good course too!!

Good luck today everyone, and Renewed, I understand the all or nothing mentality. That's my DH through and through. Glad to hear you took yesterday off. It makes me feel normal and you more human! lol. But seriously, good for you. Now, get your butt in gear and run today!

Georgia... 70 laps... that's insane! That would take me a week! I used to swim in highschool and competed in the individual medley which is 400 metres. It didn't seem like much back then, but now I bet I'd drown!

Renewed - you took a break? Is the sky falling - LOL (looking towards the heavens).

Kathy - I hope ya'll have fun today golfing and good luck with your interview tomorrow (it is tomorrow right?)

Georgia - 70 laps - Oh my goodness. I'm doing good if I can get in 10. LOL. At least we have a number to work towards!

Sugar - I hope you get a good report on Monday.

Mamato3 - I hope your hip gets better soon. Sounds like you may need to rest it. The elliptical sounds like it may be a good option. Let us know how you are doing.

Mamato3~ I feel your pain! Not running has been torture! The RICE thing really helped out with my knee. Hope your hip gets better soon.

Renewed~ Girl, we are so much alike it's scary! I have battled with that all or nothing mentality for as long as I can remember. It has gotten a lot better but since I am not running, I find it's really hard to get into anything else. Some days I feel like just quitting everything but I'm trying really hard to push through it. It's a head thing. Glad you let your body catch up. I'm sure you will feel much better now!

Sugar~ Good luck at your appointment! I hope your legs are healing nicely.

Leslie~ I know, 70 laps is insane!! I could barely do ONE without stopping! It's so weird how different activities effect us in different ways.

Kathy~ Enjoy golfing with DH! Kick his butt, lol!!

Tootie and Jeannie~ Congrats on starting week 2! Ya'll don't worry too much about speed right now. It will come in time. Just go at a speed that you feel comfortable with.

My knee was a little stiff last night from walking on the treadmill and I expected it to be really sore today, but it feels fine. Now I'm thinking I could have ran but I will try to refrain until my appointment.

DH did week 1 day 1 of C25K last night. I am so proud of him! I've been 'hinting' that I wanted him to do it with me. I haven't 'hinted' in the last week or so, and without telling me, he downloaded the podrunner intervals and started doing it. I was so excited! He expected to be sore today but this morning he said he wasn't sore at all.

Well, I just finished my run for today, and yall are all right, my body thatnks me for the break. I ran the 25 minutes at 5.0 on the treadmill, and it was hard, but doable. I didn't feel like I was dying at the end. I think there is hope. I really needed a good run today!!

Renewed... way to go!! Funny how we keep pushing ourselves and get frustrated when we don't see success. Then step back and it happens. congrats!

Georgia... glad the knee is feeling good after your walk. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Leslie.. yes tomorrow is the interview. So I'm starting to get a bit nervous!

I just got back from the golf game and had a great time! I can't say I kicked DH's butt, but I did win!!! I golfed 118 and he golfed 122. I think I drank too much because by the end I had a few really bad holes! I hit par on 2 holes and bogied 2 holes, then cacked all over the rest! lol!!! One major success... I walked a lot of the course. We always get a cart because this course is very very hilly. In fact, in the advertising for it, they recommend carts due to the hills. Most of our friends who are die hard walkers won`t play this course because its too hilly. Having said that, I left my DH to drive the cart and I walked to my ball 80% of the time. I could never have walked that in the past. And I had the energy to do it!

ok just popping in to make sure your all ok. Your all rocking!!!! lol. u hardly even need me!

YOUR all amazing.

Renewed: 25 mins!!!! and at 5.0mph you nearly ready for a 5k race!!

at 5.0 you would be looking at 36 mins of something depening on hills. that respectable!!!

Anyone else watching the Olympics? Michael Phelps is kicking butt!! I love it! The swimming relay that team USA won was fantastic!! I thought it was sooo funny that France had to eat their words, lol!

g-girl--Yes, I have been watching the Olympics. This is the first time I have ever watched any of it. My husband is a big fan so we spend time each evening watching it. Michael Phelps is freaking awesome! Watching them has been very encouraging to me. I know I will never be in THAT kind of shape, but to see their sculpted bodies is amazing!

I did week week 6 mix 2 today. Great music today. It was a 10 minute run, 3 minute walk and another 10 minute run with a 5 minute warm up and a 4 minute cool down. I felt great the whole time. Probably could have even gone longer, but Friday is 25 minute run...YIKES! I also did Wii Fit strength training. I always do the strength training activities on run days and then do Yoga, Balance Games and Aerobics on my off days (also on Wii Fit). I have NEVER been able to do a push up in my life, not even in my "skinnier days", but one of the strength training exercises IS pushups. I am really pushing myself on this one because that is another one of my goals...to be able to do pushups! Everytime I try it, I can tell I am getting stronger!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
