SugarBean 0 Posted August 11, 2008 Georgia - Phew, that looks hard. I have not been much of a swimmer since I was a kid. We had a pool in the back yard, so I did swim quite a bit, but have not for a very long time. I bookmarked the site. My DH and I have been talking about joining the fitness center, so if we do, I will have this handy to give it a try.
georgia girl 35 Posted August 11, 2008 Thanks Georgia! I like the program. I may try it. I usually just swim until I can't go anymore. How are you doing? Did ya'll swim yesterday? I have my run tonight - and am going to swim tomorrow night. Hey Les! I'm doing fine. We didn't swim yesterday but I think we may go tonight, not sure though. I thought about trying the C25K on the elliptical since it's zero impact. I could use my podrunner and speed up and add a little resistance when it's time to run. What do ya'll think?? Guest Leslie2Lose Posted August 11, 2008 I think it is a good idea while your knee is healing. Still remember not to overdo it though...you may not be running, but you don't want to work it too much. Give it a go!

Swimming is A LOT harder than I remember, lol!
renewedhope 4 Posted August 11, 2008 That really looks neat, Georgia. I wish I had a pool. I could go to the gym, but probably only on Mon, Wed, Thur. I wouldn't be able to alternate it with running. Hmmmmm. I may have to give it a try though. They say swimming burns LOTS of calories. Be careful with your knee. I think the eliptical is a great idea. Guest Leslie2Lose Posted August 11, 2008 Georgia - I wonder what the lenth is of the pool at the Y? I've been using the indoor pool, which isn't an olympic size (the outdoors one is). I guess I need to ask the swimming director. I'm not sure how many laps I'd have to do to get a mile. I love to swim. I was a fish in the Water as a child. Grew up with a neighborhood full of boys, so I had to keep up with (or in my case) beat them at everything. I'm so competative - LOL. I've always been an endurance swimmer - I just don't go fast right now, which is aggrevating. I think as I lose weight it'll be easier - it's hard to pull 200+ pounds through the water at any kind of speed. So right now I'm going to focus on endurance. georgia girl 35 Posted August 11, 2008 Hey Renewed! I think I am going to shoot for swimming 3 times a week for now. When I start running again, it may be more like 2 times a weeks. I'm not sure if I will follow that program to a T, but thought I would at least give it try. But for now, I may just swim until I have to stop, rest a bit, and repeat until I tire out. Guest Leslie2Lose Posted August 11, 2008 I just realised something...duh. For all of us adding swimming on our off days (I'm going to aim for 3x a week), all we need to do now is add the bike and we can do a triathalon! I hate the bike though :-(...hurts my bottom! I think I saw a sign at the indoor pool that had the laps to mile equivalent on it. I don't remember how many made a mile, but I think it was A LOT!! I'll check next time I go. I'm sure the life guards would know though.......
renewedhope 4 Posted August 11, 2008 I am thinking I could go to the gym and swim on Mon and Wed nights. Maybe Sat. I am afraid if I commit to the program I will overcommit. I know you can't imagine that. I am really working on not pushing beyond my limits. There just seems to be such a fine line between pushing as hard as I can and overdoing it. Patience is not one of my strong points. I want to be at goal yesterday!!
georgia girl 35 Posted August 11, 2008 Renewed~ I can't imagine you overcommiting, lol! Seriously, I do know what you mean. That's why I say I may just commit to swimming right now. Just swim as long as I can. I will probably work up to starting the program eventually, but not right now. I just need to get back in the swing of swimming first. renewedhope 4 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm with you Georgia. I do want to start swimming again. Maybe once the couch to 5k is over, then I can run a couple of days a week and start the swimming program then?? Just a thought. Leslie, It would be really cool to do a triathalon some day. I can believe I am even thinking that way. This is all soooooo wild.
Guest Leslie2Lose Posted August 11, 2008 I'm with Georgia and you on the training program. I am going to work on doing as much as I can right now, until my body says nope. I do want to find out about the pool length though, that way I'll know what I am doing. One step at a time. I'm running tonight - looking forward to it!!! renewedhope 4 Posted August 11, 2008 A lady from our homeschool group jsut invited me to run a team marathon with our group. How cool is that. Each person on the team runs a part of the marathon, so noone is running the whole time. I wouldn't runmore than 5k. It is in Dallas sometime in October. I don't know much else about it. I am so pumped that I was invited to join them.
