whosyadaddy - hmmm, interesting! You are right, I shouldn't push it too much. I imagine in a few weeks I'll be griping how hard it is! I think I'll take your advice and keep the speeds at 3.5 snd 4.5. I really don't want to injure myself.

Well I walked Monday for 30 minutes.

Oh Renewed, I am also a foster mom, we have two dd's, almost 12 and 8, and our 2 year old who we are adopting through foster care, he's been with us since an baby and we are in the middle of all the red tape right now. We plan on adopting again, but not through foster care.

Today I did a whole lot of nothing but was busy and moving. I ended up with thrush (huge painful white and red sores all over my mouth), I've had several foster babies with thrush over the years. Now I know why they were so fussy. I had to go the Doctor at the same time my kids 6 month dental check up. My oldest dd is a competative gymnast and she is has gymnastics camp and my middle dd is just starting little league. Thank goodness our 2 year old is not signed up for anything! My mom is here helping me out or I would be nuts. DH is no help, although I love him, his work schedule is hectic. I'm still pretty sore and my primary Dr wasn't able to see me so I saw a Dr who was very curious about my surgery, he wanted to take a look to see how I was healing, felt my abdomen and dug in to find the port. Why??? I have NO idea. It hurt for a couple hours after the appointment. I wanted to slap him...

I was jogging prior to surgery for 15-20 minutes 3 times a week so I think I may be able to do this by the end of the program, for now I'm walking. I meet with my surgeon next week and hopefully I will be given the green light for exercise soon.

You are all very motivating!!!

Well, I gave it the good ol college try. I did much better day one. I got through 3 intervals of running at 5.0, the 4th at 4.5 and then walked the rest of the time at 3.0. My heart rate was 168 and was beating so hard, my lungs felt like someone had blown ice cold air into them and the top of my foot has been hurting for the past 48 hours..I don't know if it happened during first run or what. Its not a consistant pain, just when I twist it slightly the wrong way. I bought some new running shoes yesterday. The shoes I have been wearing to the gym are pretty old and beat up. These shoes feel heavier, but have a lot more support.

I'm kinda down about not doing the podrunnner the correct way, but I did keep my heart rate up the whole time and I walked and jogged for 30 minutes.

Btw, I will be in Chicago for the next few days, I will take my iPod to the fitness center in the hotel, but I don't know if I will have time to check in. I will bring my laptop and try! I will be getting PLENTY of walking though!

Have a happy 4th of July if I don't talk to you before then!

Bonnie! 5.0 is FAST LADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slow down!! my goodness.

I would estimate you shouldnt be running faster than 4.5mph and walking around 3mph. Hey even if you run at 4.0mph that is still good!

YOu gota slow down!!!! THats the hardest thing to learn at this...GO SLOW. GOod job though! Hey you will be up kinda near me! (Well 3hrs away)

Try and keep it up at the hotel. I travel alot and to keep up workouts when i travel was a big challange i had to get over.

whosya---I am glad you said that. I just figured that since 5.0 was the preset "jog" button, that is what I "should" be doing. I thought it was pretty fast for someone like me. I think I will do week one a couple of times too. I am in no big hurry to complete the program and I am not signed up for any 5ks in the future. I just want to be able to pick up the pace, which will eventually come with training.

Thanks for your input!

Okay, I just finished day 2. It was harder than day one, I think because I am still so sore from day 1. I walk at 3.0 and jog at 4.0. My heart rate got to 170.

After I did my jogging program, I went to do weights and my nose started bleeding. I wonder if it has anything to do with how fast my heart was beating? The only time I have ever had a nosebleed was with allergies. I don't have allergies right now.

I can't imagine ever increasing the time or speed when I do this. I struggle with each step as it is. I guess if I continue to do week 1 over and over, at some point it has to get easier.

Wendy...it will get easyier one day. Keep it slow. I think week 5 or 6 it started to get easyier. And i think on week 7 i ACTUALLY enjoyed it! I didnt thnk that would ever happen!

I repeated a few of the weeks though too.

Bonnie...phe glad your going to slow down girlie! I was a little worried about you going 5.0! my gosh thats fast. I am loving your picture btw.

Wendy- stick with it. It will get easier. At 170 you are a bit over your target heart rate- 30-35 yrs 95-162(50-85%) beats per min.

Says the American Heart Association:

How should I pace myself?

When starting an exercise program, aim at the lowest part of your target zone (50 percent) during the first few weeks. Gradually build up to the higher part of your target zone (75 percent). After six months or more of regular exercise, you may be able to exercise comfortably at up to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. However, you don't have to exercise that hard to stay in shape.

Which might explain the nose bleed. The air in the gym is from AC units that dry the air. Another way to get a nose bleed.

Keep up the great work!!

I am going to keep trying, I am already worried about trying to progress to week 2, but to tell you the truth, I didn't think I could do the week 1 either.

I have never seen my heart rate that high. It kinda surprised me. When I first started the Elyptical my heart rate would hit 159 and the screen would beep and black out! lol, now on that machine my heart rate doesn't go above 140. But 170 man!

I am going to have to wait till Saturday to do my next day (out of town for the Holiday). But I will be thinking of you guys!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
