Welcome Canoie! This thread has a great group of people on it. You've come to the right place!

GA - I don't know how, but I missed your purse story when I last posted. I am sooo sorry. I can't imagine how you must have felt, especially with your son in the car. I'm glad everyone is safe.

Kathy - thanks for the encouragement, I'm trying to stay with it. Only 5 more weeks til surgery....again.

Mary - What kind of foot surgery are you having?

Hey Suzanne! That was Carol's purse that got stolen with her son in the car. I did post that mine got stolen a few years ago though. Thank God no one was in the car when it happened to me.

How's the foot? Still hanging in there?

Welcome Canoie... some of us have been running for awhile, and some have just started... but we all need support, so feel welcomed and join on in!

I just finished my week of major stress at work - customer meetings and business plan meetings with the global VP. Its all good, but OMG I've been preping for this for over a month. Meetings are all done now, and it went well, but I am tired. I've never been the type to fall asleep in front of the TV, but on Thu & Fri night DH and I were watching some TV in the bedroom and I fell asleep about 5 min in. He positioned my pillows for me and covered me up, and I woke up a few hours later... dazed but comfy.

I ran a couple of times this week, but just short 15 min runs... just to keep me loose. I didn't really even get winded, but I didn't have any time for anything else. I'm planning a longer run today and should be back on schedule this week.

Ok, either I need a fill, or I need to exercise more... or just get a bit more disciplined. When I posted my last post I realized in my signature that I hadn't updated my weight loss ticker in over 90 days... well, I haven't because I haven't lost anything in that time. I haven't gained either, which is great, but I would like to lose a bit more, so I need to do something different.

I know if I do some strength training it will help. But I'm being stretched at all ends with my time... work is so busy, the kids need my time and I barely get any time for myself. I know... whine, whine, whine!!! LOL... just venting.

The foots about the same. Only 5 more weeks until my surgery, and crutches....again :frown:

Kathy, I hear ya on not having enough time. At least you are staying with it though and keeping yourself active.

I started the C25K program last week. I downloaded the program on my Itouch and made myself a nice playlist. I had to put up some dough for some orthopedic tennis though :frown: I got shin splints really bad after the 1st run, put me down for a whole day. Since the replacement, shins are fine and I ready to run!! Quick question though...what is a good walking pace and running pace? I look around and feel like my jog isn't fast enough.

I was so glad to find this forum. Someone on another one recommend the c25k program to me and I tried it a few days ago..I was only able to complete about 1/2 of the 1st week. I think I will have to stay on week 1 for a while..How many of you had to do the same thing and how long did it take before you were able to graduate to the next week..Any advice would be great

Welcome Tembowe and Lazon... you will love the c25k (eventually - LOL)

Don't worry about your pace, just run at your own pace, but if numbers help you... I started at a 3.2 walk and a 4.2 run.

As for repeating... yep, we all did! I got stuck for 5 weeks on week 5 and many of us repeated every week at least once or twice. My little rule of thumb is if I can complete the full run by the 3rd run in the week, I could move to the next week. Good luck!

I don't think there is a magic number for a good walking/running pace, especially because I think this is dependent on height. But, that said, I'm 5'10 and when I started this my good walking pace was 3.2/3.5 and the running pace was 4.8/5.0, depending on the day. This is a great program though; I can really see the difference in my calf muscles!

Canoie -

Congrats on starting the program! It will become addicting as you will try to beat your time each week! I know it will be hard to start and make this a routine; however, as a suggestion, you should download some great music, and only listen to that chosen music when you're working out. That way, you can look forward to working out so you can hear your favorite tunes! There are a lot of great suggestions on music on here – once you find your favorite music that gets you want to move, it will really help! With some of the music on my iPod, I can’t wait to run! Good luck!!

Hey everyone!

I am still chuggin' along, lol. Still on week 2. I am finding it much easier this time around. I feel like I'm ready to move on, but my sister is struggling a little, so I'm gonna wait it out with her. I'm so glad I have someone to do this with. Makes it much more fun! I am very proud of her too!

At this pace, I'm not sure we will be able to run the full 5k in December. I'm okay with that though. There is another one close by in Feb. or March. I wanted to beat my time, but I'm not going to stress over it. I will get there.

So, I've gotten started on the first week!

I've told a couple of friends and they are excited about getting started, too. I feel so inspired.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Hey All! Been out for awhile - I miss catching up with everyone! Welcome to all the new runners! You are starting a great program.

I have been a little lax on running lately - not good. The time commitment with school has been a bit overwhelming. I also really love trail running and it snowed last Sunday! Crazy! So a lot of the trails I run at higher altitudes are not so easy to run right now!

I am going to try and get a good trail run in today and get back in the swing of things. Even if that means only running 3x a week. I need to hit the road and get over it. I will probably only do 3 miles today, it has been two weeks (can't believe I just said that!) since I last ran. Oh my - Kathy, GA - I need a swift kick in the fanny!

Hope everyone has a great run today!

Hey Kristen! Welcome back!

**cyber kick**....okay, there's your kick, lol.

We all need a little kick from time to time. Glad you are getting back at it. Good to hear from you and make sure you keep posting!

My sister was unable to jog yesterday or today, so I went to the Y and did week 3 on the treadmill. I did the same thing I did last time...ran right through the cool down, lol! Oh well, I ran an extra 4+ minutes!

How is everyone else doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
