hatingmyfat 0 Posted June 28, 2008 I attended a seminar this week and am very excited!! I am scheduled for my first doctor's visit on 7/21. However, my BMI is 37.8 and the nurse I spoke to was not very positive about my being approved. I have had NAFLD (Fatty Liver Disease), but lost about 45 lbs and my levels went back to normal. I have since gained 20 lbs back, but have not been retested. The nurse is not sure if NAFLD will qualify me anyway. I also have partial disability through the military for ankle, knee, and back pain, but no one has ever outright stated that it is arthritis. I don't really have any other medical problems, so I'm seriously worried that I won't be approved. Any advice? Frustrated!!!! :confused2:
kansascase 0 Posted June 28, 2008 Don't let your BMI fall below 35. You will have probably two weeks of a high Protein diet before the surgery and you will lose weight. As far as your fatty liver disease, I think that could be argued. If there is a problem with that, go back to the doctor that diagnosed the fatty liver disease, and ask them to write a letter to clear you and something that says you no longer suffer from that. I had medical problem and they didn't want to do the surgery and I argued my case with words from the doctor that diagnosed it. I would be more concerned about your BMI.It is unfortunate that by losing all the weight to fix the fatty liver disease, it might just take you out of the running. Most people have to go through the 2 week diet to shrink the fatty tissue around the liver before the surgery. Lots of luck.
