roller coasters and rides?

Recommended Posts

hi everyone!

I had the lap band surgery like 5 and 1/2 weeks ago and this weekend my friends and I are going to Universal Studios in California. Is it safe to go on rides this soon after having the surgery? My mom things the jolting/twisting of the rides will effect my band

any thoughts?!

Do you remember how bad you wanted the lapband? Why take a chance on doing something that will do harm to you and a chance you might have to have it removed for a minute of thrills. I am not a doctor but I am a mother and she would not be telling you this if she didn't believe it. Just think about it the jerking and turning upside down you know that will take a big jolt on your body. I know a lady that rode the roller coster that had a cap on her tooth come off and her bra strap broke from the force. I would really think twice or call your doctor before taking a chance. There are other rides you can enjoy! Whatever you decide to do have fun.

Hi Angela,

I know it's summer time and we are all anxious to get out there and have some fun from time to time. I know I am!

Perhaps you should just give your doctors office a quick call and ask the technicians there the question. The office has probably gotten this question before, and if not they can relay the message to your Dr.

Most likely though it is still too soon. Your body is still forming the scar tissue around your stomach and where your port is placed. It is vital to remain less active and to stay on your prescribed diet at this time.

Summer still has much time left. You'll get to go out very soon and enjoy the parks. They'll still be there I'm sure. Believe me when I say this, you'll be losing weight and you won't be able to get enough recreation time!

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
