this may sound like a silly question but ill ask anyway. if you are hungry but your band or your stomach feels tight should you eat anyway? sometimes i feel really tight but my stomach feels hungry so i eat something. im wondering if i should eat something light or just drink something. for example tonight i felt tight but ate 1 1/2 bowls of popcorn. i probably shouldnt have. maybe i should be listening to how i feel as far as the tight part and eat something very light so i wont hurt myself. any thoughts

andrea

ps sometimes i think i eat for comfort or habit

I understand how you feel. I get the same feeling. When I get like that though I try to eat something that I know I won't have trouble with like Soup or something a little mushy. As far as popcorn goes, my Doctor said I was to never have popcorn again after the band. They said it might get hung and cause problems. I know every Dr is different but that was one of the things on my post-op instructions to avoid altogether. Hope this helps you some. Good luck!!!

I was also told to not EVER eat popcorn. Getting stuck is something that is a truly miserable feeling. Although a Vitamin got stuck for me I am now afraid to eat breads, pastas, and rice along with the popcorn. These things stick together and form a ball that may get stuck in the band. Since we need the extra Calcium I have taken to having some yogurt or some milk. That seems to help me. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
