band failing after 3 years

Recommended Posts

Hello...

I've had my band for 3 years now. I have lost 120 pounds. I have the most amazing surgeon and have been really blessed along this journey. Somewhere along the last 4 months i had complete loss of restriction. I went to see my Dr, after a few fill attempts, he noticed my band would not hold Fluid. We scheduled me for a port replacement which he did on tuesday 6/24, my band still would not hoild Fluid, it was not my port. He then proceeded to do an endoscopy to rule out an erosion, which he did, it is not an erosion. My band has a bubble and is leaking out fluid. My surgeon says Allergan has to replace it. Does anyone have their paperwork and can tell me what the warranty on the device is? it would be greatly appreciated!!!

I can be emailed at:

vjoseph@interthinx.com

many thanks,

Vikki

I am reading lap band for life from Ariel Artiz Lagardere, it comes from the USA this book and it states that that it is possible to happen before page 139 because this is the page I am. Am due to have my band in September and I am reading everything that can go wrong, that is one of them. You will need a replacement Band. Anyway, you should know now, the amount of food you should eat after 3 years of restriction so one would hope that you could handle some months of being starving all the time? i have been waiting for the band for 2 years now. Good luck though.

Hi Vikki-

I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you are experiencing! If you can wait until Monday, please consider calling Allergan directly. There is a gentleman there who is the customer service rep for the Lap-Band. I cannot recall his name at the moment, but he was very helpful when I called about my slipped band. He should be able to provide you with more information.

hi. i just found out my band has a LEAK in it. it's not the port, it's not eroded. it's the actual portion of the band that is supposed to fill. it has broken or "popped". my doc says it must be replaced, it cannot be fixed. has anyone had this problem? i saw what it looks like when i had a fluroscopy the other day, it's like the Fluid goes in, and trickles right back out into my body. scary, and i'm really sad. i've had the band for 2 1/2 years. i was going through what you are mentioning, fill, no restriction. another fill, no restriction. we did this three times, and then it was like "something is wrong". my doc says they are going to try to get the LapBand people (Inamed? Allergan?) replace it, but that's not a "for sure" thing. anyone with advice? is this what's going on with you, vikkiann? please let me know what you've found out, or if you have any advice. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
