Recommended Posts

Hey Guys...I have heard good things about Dr Pitt..I still have a bit of research to do. He apparently services Duluth Minnesota.

Does anyone know if there is a BMI minimum "requirement" so to speak. I am 27.9 BMI.....

I am also self pay....can anyone kindly give me a ball park figure of what Dr Pitt's fees are. Do you pay for each additional Fill after the surgery?

Thanks Sig

HI Sig,

There is a minimum of a 35 BMI, he charges self pay $12500 or somewhere around that number. You can find more information about his services at columbia bariatrics.

He is a great Dr. and runs a very good practice IMHO, he is banded, I think that makes a huge difference in the way that he prepares his patients.

They give you REALISTIC information. I've read many post where people are complaining because they don't feel restriction right after surgery. He tells you straight up that it may take 2 to 5 fills before you are at your sweet spot. For me the insurance pays for my first three fills and after that they told me it would be $75.00 per fill. Not sure what it will be for self pay.

Hope this information helps, good luck in your journey.

Stacy

I am going to one of Dr Pitts seminar in Aug I am so ready for this but I know I am going to have to fight my insurance company (Blue Cross Blue Shield Alliance)(anyone have that company) every step of the way and will probably also have to use the group I saw on the internet that will rep you if your insurance refuses to help you. It is an Advocacy Center and Obesity Law Center Has anyone ever used them? I also read where someone went to Dr Pitt even though they had to drive 70 miles since he was not as expensive Can anyone tell me the banding cost with Dr Pitt if you are self pay Thanks and Have a Great Day

I have BCBS Alliance administered by wellmark. When I started looking into this I pulled the insurance coverage book and it stated for me that I had to have a BMI of 40 for at least three years or a BMI of 35 with at least to comorbidities. Oh and I had to prove previous attempts at loss...

I'd say that is the first place that you want to start. Look and see first if they cover it and what the conditions are.

They will give you a book with TONS of information in it.

I was approved within a week of having all of my paperwork in. I gave them tons of supporting documentation. Everything from my EKG report to my personal training records, to letters from my three docs and physical therapist and health coach.

Dr. Pitts staff and the staff at Boone county are AMAZING! I have been so impressed with them.

I wish you the best, and hope you can join the bandsters soon.

Feel free to PM me.

Good luck,

Stacy

ChristaO,

I was self pay with Dr Pitt. Its been just over a year ago and I paid $12,500 plus a few other little things...I think a copay on the psych eval or something. Not sure what he is charging now, you will find out at the seminar. Good luck! I also got free fills for life because I got the Realize band and it was brand new then. What a deal!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
