I am on my way to hopefully getting approved for LBS. I originally really wanted GBS but my Primary Care Phy, LBS, nutritionist & therapist all say LBS would be best for me. I am hoping that by coming to this site and reading all of your stories I will feel better about LBS.

Thanks, Candi

Well, glad to have you, Candi. Welcome! Just out of curiousity, If you want GBS, then why don't you insist on getting that? Don't get me wrong.....I love my band (and personally feel it's the safest procedure on the market)....but I wonder if the above-mentioned people have some financial stake in ignoring what you want and referring you to something else? Either way have a look around. There's a lot of information to be found here.

Well the reasons that the "experts" are suggesting LapBand are: they say since I only have 120 # to lose, also I am a "fit" morbidly obese person, also I take 4 mental health meds and it would take some time to tweak them since they would be absorbed differently. I just am not convinced that LapBand will be a "strong enough tool" for me. Now with more info, what do you think?

Hi Candi. I just had my lap band on the 19th of June. While in the hospital, I made it a point to ask the nurses what they thought of lap band in comparison to Gastric bypass. I got the same answer each time an the said "definitely lap band. People with gastric have a much harder time. And they tend to have ongoing problems". This came from thin nurses who work with a lot of bariatric patients. It helped me to feel better about my decision. I hope it helps you too.

Good luck!

Hi Candi, I am doing really good. I don't know if you have had any surgeries before but I have and let me tell you..this is nothing in comparison! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the way you feel afterwards. I actually wonder at times if I really have it in there! I am certainly in more control of my cravings and making better choices. It's funny but today I saw my mom for the 1st time since my surgery and when I was leaving...she told me to wait. She wanted to give me some apple pie to take home! I told her I would LOVE to...but I couldn't. I guess that's what moms do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
