Please share experience with Dr. Kuri

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery with Dr. Kuri and I would do it again in a heart beat, he makes you feel very comfortable and always calls back if we run into problems after a fill. The day of my surgery he went in to say hi and then afterwards (before I left the hospital) he went in twice just to make sure I was feeling good enough to leave.

He has excellent bed side manners!!

For me I found him to be pleasant along with his associates.I however wasnt a big fan of Miguels behavior(he is the shuttle driver)-he actually was always late and then the first day after we had been on planes.traffic, doctors offices etc....he thought he was going to keep washing his vehicle while we sat in the van-i of course did not allow this-long story but anyway....He also isnt the most informative person-now dont get me wrong-he is a nice enough fella Im sure just think he may be over extended and it reflects off on us.The hotel is nice enough-we arent in the nicest part of town but the hotel is probably a 3 star here in the states. We ate at the restaurant for my final meal-it was nice and very affordable. There is a delicious taco place around the corner-cant remember the name but honestly you are there such a short time it doesnt really matter.Do keep in mind the manner they do things is different and the hospital you go to is VERY small-10 rooms with 17 beds and rustic in appearance. The people are nice and its a good idea to have a basic phrase knowledge sheet with you so you can communicate because none of the nurses who attended to me spoke a lick of english.I was in room 10 and they do indeed check on you so thats good. They will give you a little yellow pill the night after surgery that you should get about 9 or 10 to put under your tongue and it will knock you out for the best sleep EVER-lol.

I guess because I do speak spanish I really did'nt have a problem. Miguel really tries his best to do everything he needs to but I think Dr. Kuri is growing so fast that they need 2 or 3 more drivers. To me it was a great experience because even though Miguel was late, I enjoyed the time just talking and getting to know my new bandster buddies!

It is all worth it in the long run!!!

Thank you for responding, drivers are the least of my worries. I have had a band erode so I am being pretty picky for the second time around if there will be one.

If you are picky about your surgeon's skill placing bands, you can't go wrong with Kuri. Re-banding my be another issue, however. Is it possible for you to travel to TJ for a pre-op appointment with Kuri? Just so you get a feel for how he will handle your case and surgery, etc? Even if you didn't choose him, it seems like it would be worth it to "interview" and have a chance to ask questions. I'll bet JoAnne would be of great help to you...You can link to her e-mail at BeLiteWeight.com

Good luck. I hope you are able to get your band back. Kuri is a dear man, very talented, knows his stuff about LapBands. I think you are smart to consider him.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
