I have an appointment set for July 15 with my surgeon's PA. I should recieve my surgical date at that time. I'm going to Dr Barba here in CT. Hopefully I'll recieve a surgical date for the end of or better yet early part of August. My biggest concern and the one I'm struggling with the most is that I drink all the time. I consume on average 4L a day. And I never eat without drinking and can easily drink a quart of skim milk with my meal. How do I stop that once I'm banded. Surgery doesn't bother me, pain I can live with, reduced meals???.. well okay but no drinking!!!!! Oh boy. Just the thought of it turns my mouth to cotton. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on almost being all set. I am still sorta struggling with the drinking thing. I was a compulsive diet coke fan so I have finally cut it down to 1 can a day. I know after I have the surgery the soda will have to be cut out completely but for now this is working for me. My only advice is practice and to take it one day at a time. Good luck hunny!:Angel_anim:

I use to also drink a lot with my meals...it was nothing for me to drink 2 to 3 glasses of something with each meal......but i drank my last carbonated drink 2 nights before my surgery and have not had one since....i didnt think i could handle not drinking with my meals but i promise u it has not bothered me one bit....i eat my meal then wait till time for me to have something and then drink a bottle of water...i dont drink with my meals and still consume 70-80 ounces a day.....good luck and i know u can do it.......kay

Congrats on cutting your diet coke consumption done. That's not easy to do. Thanks for the advice and good luck with the surgery :)

Thank you. Good to hear that you have not had a problem with the limitations. That gives me a lot of hope that I can do it too. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
