My surgeon is moving

Recommended Posts

My surgeon called me tonight, I was afraid my surgery tomorrow was being cancelled. He just wanted to tell me an out of state hospital offered him a job he just couldn't refuse. He told me he had someone to take over his patients. He just wanted me to know in case I wanted to cancel tomorrows surgery. I was like..."No frickin way...all I've had for 3 days is sugar free popsicles and Jello."

He does tend to do a lot of follow up on his patients, so when he leaves in mid August, I will not have that (the phone calls checking on you, and just generally keeping you in line)

At least he didn't call to cancel the surgery

That was very professional of him to call you and tell you personally. Congrats on getting your surgery this week. Julie

Exact same thing happened to me. Dr. Umbach of the Bariatric center in Eugene, Oregon is leaving to go back to California... They gave me the option of leaving the center for another one. I said heck no surgery is in a couple days and at that point I didn't care who was gonna cut me open lol.

Turns out Dr. Yarbrough took over and he is absolutely awesome and I am glad now that they did the switch :Angel_anim:

Does he have a partner that will do your aftercare? Or is he referring you to someone?

My surgeon moved back to Canada about a month after my surgery. He was in a practice with 2 other surgeons though, and they did all my aftercare, which was great. I was a little sad to lose my surgeon, though.

Good luck with your surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
