For those who hasn't done the GI test as of yet. This had to be the worst medical test I have taken. They dr will give you this stuff that taste like alkselzer. And then followed by a chalky thick drink. After you drink it he will watch it go down your throat to your stomach and then tell you to lay down and turn over about 8 times. By then I felt like it was about to come back up. After the test is over you will have to burp abut 10 times.

Just a lil warning for those who haven't taken the GI test.

Just wait until the chalk like stuff gets to the other end. It is no picnic there either. Drink lots of Water to make it easier, at least they have improved the taste from what I've been told. 20 years ago it was even nastier.

You are right the Upper GI was not pleasant, what was worse for me however was the esophageal manometry.

They make you snort some kind of numbing jelly up your nose then put a tube covered wire probe up your nose into your stomach and make you take sips of Water so they can measure how your esophagus works.

All of the tests after they were done gave me piece of mind that things were working like they should hopefully leading the way to a successful band life.........

My upper GI wasn't that bad. Just took the numbing spray in throat and they did what was necessary. I know everyone is different, but wow I feel bad for you.

Had my Upper GI on Tuesday and am experiencing the "other end" today. Not overly pleasant but I drink a ton of Water each day so it has not been awful.

My test was not too bad either. The barium was better than I thought it would be but still not great.

Mine was lying down for the first x-ray and then the machine moved me to standing for the bulk of the pictures (by the oldest man on the planet) and then back to lying down for a few at the end.

The barium did upset my stomach later in the morning but I just took a long nap and felt better when I got up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
