Hi everyone, I have gastrophoresis. It comes from having out of control blood sugars. Does anyone out there have the same thing. I only feel good when I eat things that are light on my stomach for example cream Soup, puddings yogurt. If I eat anything else it does not do well on my stomach. Is there anyone who has the same problem.

I too suffer from gastroparesis. I am still meeting with doctors for my precertification, I currently take a Reglan once a day and it seems to do the job. I make sure I test frequently and I am also on a pump. I am schedule for banding in October. I can't wait. I plan to talk to the gastro about reglan postop and see what he has to say.

:smile2:I had not heard about anyone else having gastrophoresis except my daughter when she was 18. She does not have diabetes has never had it. They kept asking us if we had diabetes in our family but we do not at her age. Now she has to watch her weight very carefully. She got it from taking narcotics for headaches when she was younger. When she has to she take Reglan as you have already been told helps. But she cannot take it all the time because it causes other complications. But she was able to take it when she was pregnant because it does not effect the fetus. She does have to be very careful with what she eats but not have to stick to soft foods. I guess everyone has different triggers. She has to avoid alot of greasy food. I don't know if this helps I just thought it was interesting to find someone else with gastrophoresis.

Hi, I was wondering if you would not get approved for lap band with gastroparesis? I suspect that I have a mild form of it but I do not get nauseous or throw up. i have not mentioned it to my lap band surgeon yet. But I am having a gastric emptying study done next week. I will ask my endocrinologist to send a copy of the study to my surgeon. I have not been banded yet but I am really curious if I have it, would my surgeon reject me from getting the band????? Did you have any trouble getting approved??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
