Cool way to spin?!?

Recommended Posts

Alright guys,

I have been looking for a cool way to spin this whole lapband surgery to all my other male friends, mostly geeks BTW. Are we bandsters cyborgs?? I looked it up on google and here is what I got.

A cyborg is: a human who has certain physiological processes aided or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices.

Sounds like us? What do you think? I mean the Borg from Star Trek are considered cybernetic lifeforms, they are assisted by technology in order to maintain/aid/enhance their systems. I just thought I would throw this out there, any thoughts?

Ha ha ha

I am Two of Four in my family. I can't wait until I can wear Seven of Nine's outfit!

Hmmm, how geeky is geeky?

-- Throw in some D&D/Evercrack/Wow/DAoC references to increased HP or health

-- Tell them the female elves love it

-- Spin it Weird Science style. There has to be a way

-- Call it Kaizen (Six-Sigma, Lean) implementation

... hmmm...

GREAT! Good to hear from other Star Trek/Sci-fi fans! I think I will tell my family I will now be known as 3 of 5! Lots of good suggestions guys and gals! My friends think this is pretty funny. Now only if I had some assimilation tubules... We are the bandborg. You will be assimilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile. ...plus you get a free lap-band!

I know just enough about Star Trek to be dangerously bad at ST references. My mother, on the other hand, can quote every book, movie, and TV episiode known to man and any other species.

I am a recovering EverQuest junkie; it's been two years away after 7 years of play. I led a high-end guild, I was a Senior Guide (non-GM GMs), and my ex-husband and I played together to spend time together. Disgusting, now that I think back on it. But, that's what we did. My point is, I understand some of the geek mentality that goes into this.

Anyway, I still visit, see, and talk to a lot of the friends I made in EQ. In speaking to one of them last night, I was telling him about this thread and he laughed; he loved it.

He said to take it a step further: whether your friends are into cars, music, sci-fi, etc. He said to say you were "streamlining." It applies to so many things!

LOL. I know what you mean! I live and breathe Sci-Fi. I love Star Trek, I own: TNG, VOY(The Doctor: "The computer sounds like it needs a stimulant."), DS9, ENT(“What IS their fascination with OUR ears!” “I think they are jealous.”), and all the movies! I could do some massive quotes, and I know all the species...I am such a geek. I'm sorry;) I am huge fan of SG1 and SGA, own them as well. I also love Farscape, and own a copy of that series as well." Firefly was pretty cool, I own a copy of it as well. I've got it bad....LOL I've been really getting into Doctor Who and Torchwood as well. I could go on and on! Well, anyway, I will tell my buds what you said, I think they will like it.. LOL Geeks! Band together....Pun intended!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
