hi there, i scheduled my first fill yesterday - it's for my 5th week after surgery. i'm just over 2 weeks out now. since i haven't had a fill, i'm wondering if they hurt. i know, i'm a chicken. my surgeon does the first one then after that, the physicians assistant does it. thanks!

Just got my first fill this morning, quick and painless biggrin.gif My doctor scared me because he said on the first fill we do it a little different, we put the needle in and then have you sit up and then fill the band when your drinking Water until you can not drink anymore.

Let me say again IT WAS TOTALLY PAINLESS as he put the needle in and helped me sit up and then told me to start drinking Water, as I drank water with the needle hanging out of my stomach (little weird) he pushed in the fill until my chest started to hurt (not bad, but you could fill it) and the water stopped going down, then he said let me know when you feel the pain go away and the water go down. After having a short panic attack thinking eek.gif OH MY GOD THIS HURTS IN MY CHEST AND THERE IS NO WAY I CAN LEAVE THE OFFICE LIKE THIS………The pain quickly went away and the water went down.

NO PAIN...NOT EVEN A PINCH FROM THE NEEDLE :tt1:

I had my first fill four weeks after surgery and I was nervous about it because I was still having some tenderness around my port site. It didn't hurt a bit (and my doctor doesn't numb the area up either - he said the shot to numb it up is more painful than getting the fill itself). My doctor didn't have me sit up with the needle in. Just had me lay down, lift my legs straight up a little bit, and reach behind me to grab the end of the table and raise my head a little bit, sort of like a modified sit-up to make it easier to find the port. It was over before I knew it.

I have my 2nd fill tomorrow and I'm counting on it going just as smoothly!

I didn't feel a thing. My doctor has you put lidocaine on the port 30 minutes before coming into the office. Once you're there he used needle to numb the area (which you dont feel cause the surface was numb from lidocaine) Then he does the fill in a reclining position. He just says if you feel chest pain let me know. I didn't feel any I just got good restriction.

thanks for your replies! sounds very encouraging! and it's interesting to hear the different ways dr's handle fills! my port area is much much less sensitive now and i think that'll help a lot!

Uhm...mine hurt. I just got filled two days ago and it was not fun. I have a realize band which has a large port but can be hard to find. They told me from the begining that they would try but they may have to do it under floro. I had a 1 1/2 wait in the doc office and I wasn't leaving there without a fill!!!

One doc tried with me laying down and it was the worst experience of my life!!! He could not find the port and was pulling the needle almost all the way out and then back in. A few times he thought he was in the port and started to push the saline in but realized he wasn't and pulled the syringe back and I got to see my blood pull into left over saline! Then he would miss the port all together or he would hit the plastic around the port and I could hear this horrible scrapping sound.

He ended up getting my actual surgeon and he had me stand against a wall and did it his first try...boy do I know who is going to do my fills from now on. I'm not trying to scare people but everyone else said their fills were all rainbows and butterflies...mine sucked...just want people to know that it's not all sunshine

I hope it isn't bad for any one else

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
