Good Morning,

My name is BlueRose and I am new at all of this. I have been morbidily obese though for a long time now. I have just recently found out that Medicaid will pay for this surgery now, where as before they did not.

It may be changed, but as it stands right now my husband and son and I have an appointment with Dr. Bell who is in Morehead City NC, for July 10th at 10:30 Am for a consultation. This is my very first appointment and they said that I need to take with me a record of what my weight has been like for the past five years.

Any ways, I was wondering if anyone had anything to tell me about this surgery that I should know or maybe ask Dr. Bell about.

I am very happy that medicaid is now paying for this, but at the same time I am now also very nervous. :(

Hello BlueRose,

My name is Pam and I have had my band since 8/07, lost 40 or so pounds since. This has been a life changing experience, not eating for comfort has been the hardest part. The best parts are playing with my grandchildren on the floor and being able to get up by myself. People treat me nicer and I feel better, my self image has really improved. I am taking less medicine now.

I wish you the best with your decision, for me it was the best thing I could have ever done for myself and my family.

My name is bella64 and I am very new to this so hopefully I wont make a mess of it. I am in Adelaide Australia and I am just beginning my journey on the way to a new slimmer me. I have had a problem with my weight for many years now and have had all the yoyo weight loss and many gains. I was reffered by my sister inlaw who had her banding done just this past November and wow she looks amazing. So I asked my doc about having it done and he said yes it would be beneficial for me. So I have paid into my medical fund and I am having my first appintment with my specialist on the 8th of July to find out all the do;s and the dont;s. I am so excited the skinny little person inside me wants to get out and be recognised..

yeehaaaa.:(

Greetings all!

I am new to this forum. I live in Maryland and I am scheduled for Lap band surgery July 15 at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. I am definately nervous but I have been keeping myself busy ordering the food and things I will need for the post surgery recovery. I am waiting for the paperwork for the pre-op bloodwork etc. I have never had surgery or been in the hospital so this is scary scary to me.

I look forward to getting some suport from you all, its all new to me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
