My doctor is having me take a sleep test in hopes of finding a way to have my surgery covered by medicare. Has anyone else had to work with Medicare? Any advice? I just want to get going. I have been reseaching this for a very long time.:confused2:

Some of the more common comorbiditeis are high blood pressure, diabetes, joint or back pain (related to weight), etc. If it all comes down to the sleep study, try and sleep on your back as much as you can. That'll make the test score out "worse".

Basic guidelines for Medicare are : Under age 65, have at least one obesity-related health problem and have been previously unsuccessful with treatment for obesity. Comorbidities that Medicare looks at are: hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (unhealthy blood lipid profile), type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and endometrial, breast, prostate, and colon cancers.

Gosh, I feel "lucky". I have 5 of the comorbidities: Diabetes, high BP, sleep apnea, arthritis and GERD. I'm only 45 and people in my family live to be over 100. I need fixed quickly!

Do you have heartburn? That's part of the GERD thingy. Just thought that may be one that you hadn't thought about.

My doc told me some good news. He thought I may be able to get off my 3 diabetes meds and my high BP meds.

I have osteoarthritis. I never even knew that was considered a co-morbidity. So I did have one. My bones are 80 years old according to the bone doctor who treated me after I broke my shoulder a year ago.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
