How much Weight Loss after PS Procedures?

Recommended Posts

I feel a little silly for asking this question and I know it will totally differ from person to person but I was hoping that some of you who have had a ps procedure done could tell me how much skin was removed in terms of weight?

I am getting a lower body lift (all around the hips/butt too!) in September and am planning to get down to about 25 bmi before that (that means about 8 more lbs for me). I was wondering how much the loose skin on my lower body weighs and how much the surgeon usually removes? Knowing that your answers will be purely anectodal I would love to hear what some of you experienced.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Karen,

I wanted to wait until I got home and was able to weigh myself on my own scale before I responded to this. My Dr. removed 4 pounds of fat and skin during my Tummy Tuck, but I have lost a total of 9 pounds since my surgery. The Dr. told me that after surgery, your metabolism is super-charged because all of your body's energy goes into healing itself. This certainly seems to be the case with me because I haven't worked out in over two weeks.

Congrats on your upcoming LBL -- we'll be looking forward to following your progress!!!!

I lost 5 pounds of skin and 3 pounds of fat from Lipo. That being said, I have only kept off a couple pounds. My ps said that is common. I had a unfill, because of some complications and decided that was a good time to have a hamburger and a rueben sandwich, since it had been so long since I could eat any of that stuff! Not a good plan. Oh well, I'm back on track now!

Thanks for the info. I wonder how much skin they will remove from me? I feel like most of mine is on my behind and hips - less in the tummy area.

Nobody has said anything to me yet about an unfill but the idea scares me a little! I know I would gain.

Karen: I'm told that the average amount of skin weight for a Tummy Tuck is 4 1/2 pounds, not sure what it would be for a lower body lift. Definetly don't get an unfill, but do it your meds in liquid form. I had a lot of swelling on my upper ab which put pressure on my band and got a pill stuck. I had to get an emergency unfill. If I get my back side done, I will not get an unfill, but I will get my meds in liquid form. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
