I am new here, I am going for my first consult in 2 weeks but am hell-bent on getting this done. Any information of advice would be appreciated but here is my big question.

Everyone I have talked to about this is VERY supportive, my Mom, my Sister, my boss, my friends BUT, my husband is accusing me of taking the easy way out and being lazy for not losing the weight on my own. I have tried every diet under the sun and don't do well because of the crazy work hours I have and having 3 kids. I don't see this as an easy fix, it is an assistance to my efforts. Has anyone out there ever dealt with anything like this, and how?

Thanks again!

My first consult is in a month and I have only told one person, my aunt. She is extremely supportive but I am afraid to tell anyone else. I can't offer advice but I understand . . .I know I will run into similar opinions from my family.

Sorry your husband is being less than supportive!

I would think he'd want you to get healthy so he could keep ya around longer

I've not dealt with this....because my husband is very supportive....however I haven't told any of my family because I don't want to hear exactly what your husband is telling you.....

I am the only over weight person in my family.....nobody else knows what it's like...it's just me. It doesn't help the fact that I'm adopted, and that's probably why I'm the only person in the family with a weight issue...just that no one has my genes...

I really don't want to hear I'm taking the easy way out!

Hey Deanna,

I have an upcoming surgery on July 2 and my husband is very supportive. I have not told anyone besides my immediate family because I don't want to hear anyone's opinion or any negative comments. It's something that I have decided that I am going to do for myself. Maybe your husband is a little insecure that you will be one hot mama after! Woo hoo! Or perhaps with you having kids, he may be a little afraid for you to have this surgery. I think his comments are just coming out of fear. I think if you talk to him and tell him how you feel, he will come around. He just needs to be reassued that you will be ok. Good Luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
