NSV- MRI scan

Recommended Posts

I have to have MRI scans every now and again and hadn't had one since being banded. For those that don't know, you lay on a table, are strapped down and then the table slides you into a round tight capsule where it takes very noisy (think jackhammer) scans of your body......it must be horrible for people who are claustrophobic.

Today I noticed that when I was being slid into the capsule that I didn't need to almost dislocate my shoulders to fit my arms through the gap and also that I didn't need to take a huge breath in to stop myself from getting jammed in the gap due to the size of my tummy!!!!!!

I've been in those contraptions!!! They ARE horrible. Delighted to hear that your last experience was a lot less traumatic. It will get even easier from here on out!

That is awesome! I won't use the closed MRI even when I am thin. WAAAAAy to claustrophobic. I go to the open MRI instead.

It is like being slid in between to hamburger Buns. It is open on both sides and the room has two all glass walls to see outside and a stained glass ceiling that lets in all natural light. You can take your favorite cd with you and even take a person in with you. Its awesome. They have colored sheets, too. Not just those plain ole white hospital ones.

I tried the closed one and came out shaking from head to toe and almost hysterical. I was only in the silly machine for about 30 seconds! I ran all the way out to my husband and begged him not to let them put me back in. The tech said "Without a doubt, schedule her for an open MRI from now on."

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
