Day 5 post LapBand Surgery

Recommended Posts

I've just found this online forum today. I am day 5 post LapBand Surgery and starting to feel a little better. Lots of surprises- the many pre-surgery classes I attended said LapBand surgery would be done through 2 incisions - but i have 7 holes! A relative of mine, who also had LapBand a few months ago on the other side of the country, had her few holes closed with staples - my doctor used crazy glue! My husband says I look like I've been in a knife fight. I'm doing ok now getting Jello down slowly and crushing pills into small amounts of applesauce. The Protein Shakes aren't going down so well, and I get bad shoulder pains after drinking them.

I am glad you found this forum. There are lots of people that can give you good advice and a few q....well lets say to avoid. I have heard that 5 to 7 incisions are fairly common. I can amagion they could look like stab wounds. I have also herad of staples and glue closures. Its good to hear you are doing ok and I hear it gets betterevery day..I wasn' crazy about the Protein Drinks until I put splenda in them it really helped or a sweetner you like. They say the solder pain is gas.

Hi DaGramma and welcome LBT!

I too had my incisions closed with glue and I can tell you that it is great. You will heal quickly and the scaring should be minimal. My son had a dog bite his face about 7 years ago and they used the glue... You can't even tell now.

They only used 5 incisions for me though and 1 was my port.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
