Breast Augmentation- too soon?

Recommended Posts

I am interested in getting my breasts augmented, but I am about 90ish lbs from goal. I had surgery Jan. 31, 2008 and have been steadily losing since. Right now I am down about 60lbs.

Probably being a little anxious and premature, but I wanted to go in and consult a plastic surgeon already. I am curious if it would be wise to have this surgery so far before goal? I have heard DO get it done before you lose all your weight, but I have also heard, DO NOT so far before goal.

Anyone with experience in this department?

I think it probably depends on what you have now.

I always had "generous" breasts, not huge, just a DD to E on a 5ft 10 frame, and I thought they'd hot shrink with weight loss. I mean I was 75lb down and still a DD. But the last 20lb, whoa. They've just GONE.

You really do need to see how they reshape I think.

But then again, if you're breasts are small enough now that you're considering augmentation, perhaps they're not going to change like mine did.

Truly, you can only go by professional advice. Go and see one or two people and see what their advice is.

Too soon....

When you say "breasts augmented", I assume you mean implants. However, most people after weightloss will also require a breast lift in addition to implants. This is because your breasts will likely sag a little as you lose weight - breast implants alone will only make them bigger, and will not correct the sagging. What you will probably need is called an augmentation mastopexy (lift + implants). The specifics will really depend on how your breasts react to your weight loss.

If you want to see a PS, then go ahead...it is never to early to have a consultation, but I suspect he/she will tell you to wait until you are closer to goal. If he/she tells you to go ahead and have it now, without even mentioning that there would be a high liklihood of needing a revisional surgery (and having to pay for it), then I would find another PS immediately.

Thanks doc and Jachut!

I have very small breasts, have my entire life. I'm about a 38 B, SMALL C right now, and that is shrinking by the week! I highly doubt if I will need a lift as they have always been pretty "perky". LOL

I will slow my roll here and wait till I am closer to goal. Besides, after the vacation time I took for my lapband I will need at least another 6 months to go under the knife again!

Thanks again for your help.

I would wait until I was closer to goal weight. It will help you find the right size to fit the proportions of your new body.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
