Question I've Not Seen Answered Anywhere

Recommended Posts

I'm still waiting for insurance approval but have a question. With as slowly as you need to eat and putting fork/spoon down between bites and waiting 1 to 2 mins. after each bite, your food must get cold in a hurry. How do you get used to eating cold food?

HI there! I am not banded yet either but have been doing a lot of reading on various lap band boards. Not sure where I saw this but one person bought one of those warmers that keep your coffee hot. I believed she plugged it in at the table and put her small plate on top of it and everything stayed warm. Just a thought.

Hi, I have very good restriction and although I've had to slow down quite a bit, I haven't ever had to wait 1 or 2 minutes between bites unless I didn't chew enough and got stuck. Then I kind of have to wait until it goes down before I take another bite. In my case, some days I can eat a small salad, for example, in 15 minutes. If I'm very tight (days do vary for me) then it could take me like 45 minutes. Last night I had a chicken burger on a hollowed out toasted whole wheat bun and it took me about 15 minutes to eat it. Preband I would've inhaled it within a minute!! I think if I were any tighter, I'd probably have a problem but I am perfect as far as my restriction goes right now.

My food does get cold! It is annoying to me so when I'm home I have very small portions like 2 meatballs with sauce. Usually that's all I eat. And I wait between each bite but it's still warm. I don't wait 1-2 minutes however unless it is a "hard" Protein like chicken.

Eating out is just not the same with the band. I can eat queso with chips but that is the only thing I can eat a whole order of. Other stuff I usually can only eat 1/4 and bring the rest home.

I am so thrilled to be full with 2 meatballs! But sometimes I miss chomping into a big ole hamburger!

Hi

I don't have enough restriction, so I can still eat pretty fast. At this point, I can't imagine waiting 1 - 2 minutes . MINUTES? That's a long time! Especially when bites are supposed to be about dime sized anyway.

However, food does still get cold. What I do is only take a little bit at a time, so that you can take more from the serving dish, which keeps it warmer. Works with some stuff...but not everything.

The good news is, hot stuff doesn't taste as good cold, so then you don't bother finishing it anyway! And then I realize that I really am not that hungry, so why eat it?

Thank you to all who have replied. I am looking forward to having the problem of food getting cold. I agree, it won't be as enticing cold. I appreciate your taking the time to reply to my question.

I remember this being a problem for six weeks or so but it doesnt happen often nowadays. Most things stay hot for 20 minutes or so and by then I'm done.

Although I often find I have to reheat my coffee!

My doc advises that regardless of amount, I should stop eating after 20 minutes. Therefore, I have never dealt with the cold food issue. Good luck!

That's probably a good rule. I went to my diet and exercise class yesterday and in the literature they even suggest that you buy a baby warming tray. I think I'll just follow your doctor's rule and just stop after 20 mins.

I don't know if they still make these but when my oldest child (he is 31 now) was a baby they had these sectioned plates that were plastic and hollow and you put hot Water in them to keep the baby food warm. I have sort of looked for them but have not found them yet. It might help to at least not let the food get ice cold as it takes me at least 30 minutes to eat a half a cup of food.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
