try asking the company first then check with the mexican hospital if they accept this insurance? There are some links on having surgery in Mexico, you may want to scroll down the home page and pick a few to review. Whatever you decide, make aftercare part of your decision making process. It can be a minefield of difficulty depending of where you live and the availability of willing fill nurses/doctors.

Did you get an answer from medicard? I would be interested in the results. I know that some of the Mx clinics are linked with finance co's but they all seem to be for americans.

I am looking at a normal line of credit from the bank, to start, but these finance companies are definately an option.

If you search the TLBC website in Toronto, there is a link to a medical financial loan company. I don't know if they cover Mexican surgical clinics but can't see why not.

I understand rates are high and if possible to stick with banks. I personally cashed in an RRSP.

I was originally going to go with Medicard for financing (but opted for another route instead) and it's my understanding with them that their financing works basically like a line of credit. They give you the cash, you give it to whichever doctor you choose to use, and then you have the option of keeping it open to use for other surgeries (PS, etc.) or you pay it off and close out the account. It is also "transferrable" between family members. (They use the word transferrable, but since it works like a line of credit, it's still in your name, and you basically just give the money to whichever medical establishment the procedure for your family member is.)

They didn't care that I was having the surgery done in Mexico. Money is money is money to them.. hehe

:thumbup:Hi Everyone,

I have spent the last few days researching and going to doctors. I found out that Medicard will cover me in mexico. As well i found a doctor that will do my fills in Red deer. So all looks good. Thy will even lend me money for plane tickets! It will cost 7000.00 in mexico verses 16000.00 in toronto and the airfare is cheaper for us to fly to San Diego than toronto.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
