Miki 0 Posted June 22, 2008 I know it was suggested that we get Medic ID alert jewelry - although I haven't as of yet. I did put no NG tube on the back of my license though. Anyone get theirs? What did you put on it? Think I may go with an anklet so I do not have to where the same Bracelet everyday...
autumnlee 0 Posted June 22, 2008 I didn't know that we couldn't hane a ng tube. Do you know the reason for this?
hopeinapril 1 Posted June 23, 2008 hi Miki: I did get a medic alert necklace. I have what looks like dog tags, but it is a medical alert. It has the alert symbol on one side and my information on the other side.
Miki 0 Posted June 24, 2008 Hey date buddy! Can I ask what you put on your dog tag? Thanks!

anniedub 0 Posted June 24, 2008 Hi, I have a medic alert Bracelet. It's yellow gold (to match all my other jewellery) and absolutely gorgeous. It says "stomach implant", and the details that are on the database specify that it is a lap band, and there should be no blind NG tube and no NSAIDS administered. No-one other than my parents and brother know about my band, so I didn't want "lap-band" written on the bracelet. My surgeon was perfectly happy just to put "stomach implant" on there. I think it's very important to have some sort of medic alert, because if you are in an accident and the paramedics try to force a blind NG (a tube down your throat and into your stomach which is NOT guided by a camera) it can get caught on the band, and severely damage the band or even puncture your stomach! Not cool! So it is ok to insert an NG, but they need to use a guided NG (with a camera on the end) so they can see where they're going, and they can see their way safely past the band. Hope this helps! Annie.
anniedub 0 Posted June 24, 2008 (edited) Also, NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are thought to erode/damage the band. This is not universally agreed on by surgeons, some think that there is no danger from NSAIDS, but I paid $7000 for this band and i'm sure as hell not taking any chances! Edited June 24, 2008 by anniedub spelling

hopeinapril 1 Posted June 26, 2008 Hi Miki: I have my name, that I am a lapband patient, no ng tubes or aspirin. I got mine through laren'shope. I think it is www.laurenshope.com There were several brochures in my doctor's office. Sorry for the late reply, sometimes I miss several days on the board. SpecialK 22 Posted July 8, 2008 I got mine from Lauren's Hope web site and I put this on it: Adj. Gastric Lap Band w/Abdominal Port No NG w/o Scope I've also just recently ordered a Bracelet for my sister that has some health problems and it also suggested putting the patient's name as the first line and putting an In Case of Emergency # e.g. ICE xxx-xxx-xxxx. The tag holds up to 5 total lines of text with 20 total characters including spaces per line. Mine is decorative and nobody even knows its a medic bracelet as the medic tag stays on the inside of my wrist and I like it that way, they only see the pretty part on top. B-52 7,113 Posted November 12, 2011 I wear a necklace / dog tag alert. But that is mainly because I have had Cardiac Surgery, Diabetes (completely reversed) and I added the Lap Band. We travel a lot, and I want something if I should pass out on a beach in the Caribbean or something.
