I fell off the liquid wagon...

Recommended Posts

After 9 days on liquids I ate food. Not much, but even so I ate food. How bad is this? I am suppose to have my surgery this Thursday coming up and I am scared that I have messed myself up.

I’ll get back on nothing by liquids today which will give me another 4 more days before surgery. Will that help?

Please, any help would be great.

i had my consult on friday and the dietician said i needed to do the liquid diet for atleast a week before hand, as that is what catergory bmi i am in, however, i was thinking it might be worth doing this for 2 weeks, she said it was up to me, however, i do not want to mess up, becasue i have decided to do longer.

should i stick with a week?

I did not have to do the liquid diet pre-op, but I took a pre-op class with a woman whose best friend was banded on a Thursday. She was to do the 2 week liquid diet. She told me that the Tuesday before her surgery they celebrated with dinner at Applebees. She said her surgery went fine and implied that she was noncompliant with much of the two week liquid diet.

You're OK. I am scheduled for Thursday, also, and I don't even start my liquid diet til tomorrow!!! ;)

My surgeon told me there is no hard and fast reason for doing pre surgery diets...thats why there are so many people doing such different pre ops. He feels the pre diet: (1) gets you in the right mindset for post surgery diet (2) keeps you form having yor last "huge meal" the night before surgery and (3) shrinks your liver down so it is easier to work on you.

So.... never fear...you will have your surgery )))

Yep, just get back on the diet and stick with it. If your liver is too large for surgery, your one little bout with solid food won't have changed anything. They'll close you back up and try again later.

But Post-Op is a different story: do NOT eat solids when you are supposed to be on liquids. If you have to, just go take a nap and sleep.

You can do it!

I read here on another thread that it actually takes 6 weeks to shrink your liver. The point of the liquid diet is to make your fatty liver less slimy so it can be pushed aside easier. Thats why for higher BMIs you do the pre opt, but for BMIs below 40, they dont require it. The poster is the one who wrote the thread about how to shop for a Mexican doctor and seemed to know her stuff.

I would imagine you would be fine, my dr. only required a 1 day liquid diet pre op, but all docs are different and every body is different. I think a more serious question to ask yourself though is, 'Will you be able to follow the post op diet instructions?'. I don't say that to be mean, but it is a serious issue. Your body has to heal and to not follow the instructions then, could be serious.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
