Hi I had my surgery done 6/18 and i have not slept since. the most i have been able to sleep is about 2 hours a night. I find it extremely hard to get comfortable. Not sure what to do but i am becoming miserable. If anyone is experiencing the same problem, or can help me please respond to this. I am truly sleepless in NJ

Hi, I was banded on May 20, and for several days after, I also had trouble sleeping. I'd sleep for an hr or 2, then I'd get up, and sit in the recliner for an hr or 2, then back to bed, I was just up and down all nite. Also, i'm used to sleeping on my left side, but after being banded, I couldn't because gravity seemed to pull everything down, but when I layed on my right side, it didn't hurt. I also figured out a pain free way of getting up. But you will eventually get back on track with sleeping, it does get better.

chris:

If you have a recliner, please use it. Also, don't be afraid to take your pain medications.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I was banded May 28th and after surgery I was given Lortab for pain. THat is one thing that most definitely helped me sleep at night and then I would pile 3 large pillows up to lay on. I used to be a tummy sleeper and it was hard to get used to sleeping on my back. I put one pillow under my lower back and the other two proped up under my head. After about 1.5 weeks I was able to lay on my right side comfortably hugging a pillow. Then about 3 weeks after surgery I was able to lay on my left side comfortably (my port is on the left). If it weren't for my Lortab though I would not have been able to sleep. Hope your sleeping gets better!

We have just bought theathre seating. They are electric and that is where I have been sleeping. I am also 4 days out and last night was the first night that I slept for about 5 hours straight. My biggest issue is the gas, it is getting better but still a lot of gas in my chest.

I actually stopped in my office the day after my surgery to make some phone calls and grab some paperwork. I also went to Connecticut on Thursday and was back to work on Friday and my surgery was Monday. I haven't taken pain meds since Thursday. Don't worry about it is not bad, I thought I was spending the night in the hospital and they sent me home the same day, I went into the OR at 1:00 ish and was in my car on the way home @ 7:00 pm. I will not lie it is not a bed of roses but 6 days out and 13 lbs lighter I would do it all over again. Good luck with surgery.

I was banded on 6/18 too. I managed to get myself out of the hospital by late in the afternoon the next day. I had an issue with vomiting... and a fever. (which the hospital didn't pick up on).

I was uncomfortable for the first night, on my first night home, I took dilaudid 2 mg, and it was enough to ease off the pain. I actually had more of a pain in my neck from the freaking hospital pillow, then the actual incisions. My chest was sore from tossin' Cookies the first night.

As a rule I hate tylenol. But, I took the extra strength liquid for 2 days, and started to feel a bit more normal.

I may be a bad person, but I had to do something to make me feel less sick. So, I started eating baby food on the second day along with my liquids. By the 3 day, I was up to toast and broth, and oatmeal.

I'm not trying to sabotage the surgery, I'm just working within the limits of what my body is telling me.

On the good side. I lost 30lbs before the surgery, with a modification of the suggested diet. I have a feeling that my journey will be a custom fit one, but successful too.

peace

Chrislacal,

I too was banded on 6/18 and am also in NJ. I have sleep apnea so sleeping on my back is an everyday thing. I have an overall uncomfortable feeling as well. I move around all night long and can't seem to get comfortable during the day either. But, it is getting better. I've been having a pain under my left ribs, not sure if it's gas, the port, the band or what. I am going for my post-op tomorrow and will find out what my pain is. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

I wish you comfort and sleep! :grouphug:

:confused:chrislical and Kristi with an I - who was your surgeon? WHat does he or she say to do about the pain? I'm scheduled for surgery 7/1/08 and a little scared about the post-surgery pain. Also scheduled to do it in NJ.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
