1 week real food... eating too much?

Recommended Posts

Im in to about 1 week with real food and i have been trying to stick to 4oz of fish or meat for my meals, just the meat. If im thinking right 4oz is 1/2 a cup. ** note :At this time i do not have a fill. **

For a bit 1/2 a cup of real food was working... feeling full. until about last night. I have been having on going issues with late night since i stay up until 5am est and wanting to eat more then 3 times a day. So i TRY to eat no more then 1/2 a cup then also.

But now .... it takes more for me to be full durning the day also. Like today i ate 3 smallish meatballs for lunch and wanted more. so i split some fish with a friend, and after i ate that i knew i ate too much. And tonight i treated my self to a sausage pattie .... but i did not stop at one. I ended up eating 2.

So i feel hungery.... and i eat more. But when im full i wonder if im not seeing that i am so i keep going. Anyone else been here before and felt like this? July 3rd im set for my 1st fill i guess, is that too far away for the way im acting now?

Hi Jessica

I can totally see what you are say. Its as though the fillness creeps up on you, i too have not had my first fill yet and really struggling to know when i am full or not. I'm 16 out of having my band fitted.

There are times when I eat more than my brain tells me I should, but the fact is that I have very little restriction still. My doctor said I can eat about a cup at each meal (ex: 2-3 oz lean Protein and small salad), and right now I do eat a little more than that at times. But, what I try to do is stop eating for 20 minutes after my allotted amount. If I still feel very hungry, I'll eat a little something else that is low in calories (ex: sugar free pudding). I think it's all normal until you reach a good restriction. You might want to talk to your doctor's office or nutritionist about it to see what's right for you.

I think we have all been there. You might want to give your nutri. a call and see what they say. It will get better. I have felt like that for a while now and can't wait until Tues for my first fill. When I feel like I am hungry and I know I shouldn't be I go and do something with a bottle of Water in my hand. Lets put it like this I have never been a gardener....well my flower beds look so good right now!!! Hang in there I am sure it gets better!!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
