Hi everyone!! I just got my approval this week!! I am still in awe that this is all falling into place. What can I expect for weight loss the first 2 weeks? Soo many questions...Surgery is 6/30!! Only 9 days away!

That is so exciting newkimberly! Congratulations!

I lost 18 pounds the first 2 weeks. But, I encourage you not to focus on the weight loss immediately after surgery. Instead, focus on letting your body heal. That is your top priority. After your body has healed, focus on the behavior changes that you need to make in order to be successful with the band. If you focus on those two things for the first 6 to 8 weeks, you will very likely lose a healthy amount of weight. Keep in mind that you might hit a plateau at certain points (mine was as early as 2 weeks after surgery), but by focusing on the two things I mentioned above, you won't get as stressed out about the scale movement. Even with my plateaus, I've still lost 50 pounds (as of today!!!) since my surgery date (3/10/08). Good luck as you continue down lapband road!:biggrin2:

Its really different for everyone. I had full restriction after surgery and I never felt a hunger pain so I cared less if I ate or not. Once in a while my head would tell me that Iwanted to grab a burger and shove it in as fast as I could.. But then once I thought about it there wasn't hunger at all.. It was head hunger and my stomach was fine. You just learn the different signals.

food loses all its glory for most and right now I am one of them I have to remind myself to eat and when I do its only 1/2 cup.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
