Heartburn & vomiting?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I had terible heartburn for about a year before my surgey and took Nexium everyday. I have a hietel hernia, but it was too small to operate on so it was left alone when the surgey was done. I stayed on Nexium for a few months after and did okay - then the Dr prescribed Prevacid Solutabs. I have been taking those and doing okay since April -which was also my last fill date. But lately, like in the last 2 weeks I feel vomit coming up in my throat when I sleep and begin to choke. The heartburn is barely tolerable throughout the day. I called the Dr, they mailed a Nexium script that I will start back on tomorrow. But does anyone have these symtoms? I was fine since April and then all of a sudden it seems to be acting up.

Are you close in proximity to your Dr.? I would ask the Dr. to see me asap. I hope your feeling better soon.

Not good. Do try to sleep elevated, if you can. Either prop yourself up on pillows or try sleeping in a recliner.

Make sure to not eat for a few hours before going to bed.

I hope the Nexium solves it for you. If not, then you need to get a small unfill. Reflux is bad news.

See your doctor--I read in Lap band companion that severe and sudden onset of heartburn can be a sign of band slippage. I hope it's not the case....

Your history with the heartburn and hernia sounds like mine. But since I've been banded I haven't had a lick of trouble with it! (knock wood)

Good luck to you--I hope you get relief!

I got the Nexium yesterday, much better! I still have a mild flare up after eating - but its making a difference.

I actually walked in the park yesterday morning with one of the lapband surgeons in my local hospital group. He isn't my surgeon, but he walks with his patients and I sort of jumped in. He said to call again if the Nexium doesn't work. I will see how I am by Tuesday or Wednesday and decide.

Thanks for your responses!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
