I’ve been on my liquid diet now for 9 days and I feel I’m cracking. I’m so sick of shakes!!!! :rolleyes2:

I’ve lost 7 pounds, is that good enough for them?

At 9 days I gave in and started eating just a little bit of mushy food. ( I was supposed to wait until day 14) I did fine with it.

Are you pre-surgery or post-surgery? Actually, it doesn't matter. DO NOT CHEAT!!!

If you are pre-surgery, your surgeon is wanting you to shrink your liver so he can access your stomach easier. The liver is in the way and I've heard of surgeon's canceling surgery if they can't safely move around your liver. Some surgeon's also do this to find out how serious you are about the life-style changes you need to make after having surgery.

If you are post-surgery, it is VERY important that you follow the eating stages that your surgeon has laid out for you b/c in the first few weeks your stomach is healing and any movement from eating/digesting (even mushies) will cause the band to not adhere correctly and your stomach to take longer to heal. This results in band slippage or erosion months or years down the road. There is usually no immediate reaction and you will feel no pain. This will be something that takes place later from your failure to follow surgeon's orders.

Everyone goes through "bandster hell," that period between surgery, real food, and your first fill (or fills, til you get good restriction). You have to remember why you did the surgery and that the surgeons have their reasons for the eating plans they have us on.

As to the posters above who replied, "didn't hurt me," you don't know that it didn't and you have no right to tell someone else to ignore their DOCTOR'S ORDERS. Please think before you do that. It could hurt the OP later down the road. Heck, it could hurt YOU down the road but you won't know for awhile yet. I REALLY hope you 2 will be okay.

Best wishes and hang in there!

Thank you heartfire, you just saved me from having to type the same thing. Bottom line, follow your doctor's orders. Just because someone else who is 9 days or 5 days or however many days out did it and it didn't immediately hurt them doesn't mean it won't down the road or that it is ok for you to do it as well. You have commit to your band and your choice to become healthier. If you are having difficulty sticking to your doctor's prescribed diet, then call him. They will probably be willing to try and help you out and offer you something safe that you can eat. And if not, then it is for your own health and the health of your band.

Thanks Ladies! I HATE these threads b/c they can be so dangerous for the OP if they listen to the garbage above. Come 3 years (or whenever) down the road, they'll be on here crying b/c of the complications with their band that they probably caused when they didn't follow their surgeon's advice. It's sad and potentially dangerous. I really hope they're okay later down the road.

Please hang it there. Remember nothing at this point can taste as good as healthy is going to feel. Been there and you can get through it. Read, go for a walk, just different liquid. Talk to your doctor because mine allowed me to eat fat free sugar free pudding, Tomato jucie, ask your doctor because it did get to eat things that I did not think was allowed. But please stick to the pre-op diet, trust me it is not worth it to cheat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
