Going to Dr.Joya in Mexico in 8 days...I'm freaking out

Recommended Posts

I have been reading these post for a long time and have finally decided it's time to post. I am from Vancouver Canada and getting banded in 8 more days by Dr. Joya in Mexico. Holy cow...am I crazy! To make matters worse I've opted to save a bit of money and travel alone, instead of taking one of my support team.

Even though I was very through I'm scared that I didn't do my research well enough and Dr. Joya isn't the right choice for me. Does anyone have some encouraging words about him?

I keep imagining how scary and surreal it will feel to be in the hospital for the pre-op testing and those minutes right before the surgery when it all starts to feel REAL. I hope I don't freak out and panic and make a fool of myself.

I hope I made the right choice.

Hey Wendy,

Just breath! I went to Mexico by myself and I had a couple of those moments just before surgery. It will be fine. I'm sure you have a good surgeon. He was not mine but I have heard many good things about him and there are many Americans that go to Mexico for medical and dental work. Relax, your not crazy, your smart and you will be so happy you had it done.

I also went to Mexico on my own 10 days ago. It was an adventure!! Other than having trouble communicating with nurses, the trip was wonderful.

I went to Dr. Kuri, so I can't comment on your specific doctor, but I know it will be okay for you. It is a testament to your strength that you are willing to travel on your own.

Good Luck.

I had my surgery in Mexico too, and I had a great experience. I don't know Dr. Joya, but I'm sure you'll be well taken care of. Dr.'s in Mexico, for the most part, are "people" doctors. What I mean is that they take their time with their patients, they get to know you, as a person, and they make you feel secure in a way. I have had a number of surgeries in Mexico with different doctors, and I've never had a bad experience. So, good luck, and DON'T WORRY!!!
