Hi George,

Everyone gets a fill eventually but usually about 4-8 weeks after having the band inserted. After that it depends on the Dr and the patient (and how restricted they feel) but could happen 2-10 times more.

Take care,

Yvonne

Thanks for quick reply. I'm 5 months out & do not want or need a fill. I was wondering % only? I have read somewhere that some people get no adjustment. May all your losses be in pounds & inches

George,

I am hoping to have the same results as you. I am only 3 weeks out so I have not had a fill but I am eating small amounts (<1cup) 3 times a day and feel minimal hunger. I have always been able to lose weight (a true blessing) and really got the band for long term weight maintenance. I am not anxious to get a fill and plan to ride my unrestricted band for as long as I can. Someone in the support group I attend is 8 months out and is still losing weight and he has not had a fill.

Same band, different ways to use it?

I remember seeing posts by someone here (can't remember who) that was about a year out and had not had a fill. I believe the % must be very small.

Yesterday I went for my post op follow-up & first fill. My surgeon said that usually during the first year his patients get between 3-8 fills the first year.

I go back August 21 for my next fill. I am on fluids until tomorrow & then it's 2 oz meals 3x daily.

I am getting my first fill Monday evening and am travelling Tuesday. Will I need to be on liquids for a couple of days after the fill? or back to normal fairly quickly? BTW I am constantly hungry can eat anything I want and am losing weight through dieting and exercise. I hope this fill makes me want to eat less and helps me feel full.

Thanks for the help.

Elaine

I don't know what your surgeon recommends, but MY SURGEON does not recommend traveling after a fill, because sometimes there CAN be problems with nausea, vomiting from the BAND being too tight. So, if you are away from home, your surgeon won't be accessible so that he may UNFILL if you need him to.

Just my "two cents worth", which AIN'T much, but that's what my dr says.

I had my first FILL yesterday & I'm on fluids until tomorrow. He said just start regular solids. I don't have to go through the mushie phase & all that stuff, thankfully.

Take Care!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
