I was banded on 6/11. For the past two days I have been having odd heart palpitations that mainly seem to stay in my throat. Today they have been quite often- every 10-15 minutes even if I'm just sitting relaxing. I can say that I am having a very hard time getting my Protein and fluids in. Especially the fluids. Can the heart palpitations be from possibly dehydration?

How many calories should we be aiming for in a day. I have been only getting three very small meals in (maybe 5-6 tablespoon of soup) and can't seem to get the three Protein Snacks in.

Perhaps I'm just malnutritioned from it all although I don't feel real bad. Just the heart palpitations with a little fuzziness sometimes- no dizziness. However, I don't want it to get worse.

Any recommendations? I am a first time poster!!!

You need to call your surgeons office. If for no other reason to clear your mind. I am not saying this is it or not, but about a year ago my thyroid whacked out (yep, that's a technical term) and I would get flutters in my chest / throat area. It was an awful feeling and went on and on until my levels leveled out. You need to call your doctor and rule out all possibilities though to be sure.

Hi, when they did your blood testing did they do a test for your thyroid. All women over 30 should have it I think. One of the reasons other than loving food LOL that I did gain so much weight in one year was my thyroid function went kaput. I am now on pills and am nicely regulated and can lose weight now and not gain when on a diet which is what happened for a number of years till I changed health plans and doctors.

It should be a standard test for lap banding. And after it too.

Call your doc right away!!! You could very well be dehydrated - which does cause heart stuff! Try to drink a bit every few minutes, all day long. Let us know how you're doing!

Best!

Thanks for the input. I did call the doctor that night and he told me I was probably dehydrated, wasn't having calories or my thyroid was out of whack. He told me to have some juice with sugar and calories. He said he knows that we are told to have drinks with no calories or sugar but that I needed the liquid and calories.

My thyroid tests were negative. Over the weekend I tried to get more liquids in and to get more calories in- meaning I probably wasn't eating enough "food". I got banded just two weeks ago and was having a hard time getting all the liquids and Proteins in. And after only 6-8 tablespoons of Soup broth, I was already full. He said I had to eat a little more than thought.

I am feeling better though! It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I've lost 13 pounds as of today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
